This sucks, couldn't be further from the truth. I'm actually actively letting my friends (who are not BH insiders) know about FUBU's existence and encouraging them to sign up.

My view of FUBU:

An amalgamation of penis high fivery, stupid threads (albeit still entertaining most of the time), dramallamalolz, bleeding hollow related stuff, wow related stuff, politics lolitics, eternal bitching about welfare, aestu wall of texts (though not so much, i guess, and well formatted :) ), handbra threads, misc posts about junk food, etc.

It's really just a place where BH people can blow off steam and post random stuff without threat of excessive moderation from Blues.

This might sound harsh-ish, and not directly the purpose of this thread, but just something I see as a problem with recruiting more people to these forums.

Every big product has a spokesman. That's why companies pay celebrities and athletes so much money to promote their product.

Haines == Michael Jordan
Adidas == David Beckham
Nike == LeBron

Those people are generally likable, relate-able, or role models for those people that buy those products. If I never knew who adidas was, I could see the commerical and go "Well if I buy those shoes, I will play like David Beckham". That is how marketing works in the world. You are selling the spokesman image.

Now if you think of FUBU as a product you are trying to market...who is the spokesman for it? Mayo. As much as you want it to seem like the "community" is the spokesman, it is not. Mayo started the forum, is the most outspoken on it, and he is the one posting threads to shore up some more interest and try to get some new members.

Is mayo a likable person? Is he known on the server as someone you would want to chat with regularly? Can someone who knows nothing about what this forum is see his name as the creator of the forum and say "Well I dont really know about those forums, but mayo is a solid guy that I can relate to so I will check it out".

This is not meant to be an insult to Mayo at all. But rather just something to think about when it comes to new recruitment and the question of "why won't more people join"

AGain, sorry if that is off topic. Just something that popped into my head when reading the recruitment thread on the realm forums

So what you mean to say is mayo sucks as a spokesperson cause everyone thinks he's a crappy role model and not likable?

Pretty harsh man......JK JK

Henq is right on.

I think a good start would be to distribute power and have Zaryi/React/Tuhl/Henq and maybe even Baneleaf and Myrrar and Seribus gain more moderator powers and generally try to talk about the site more.

I think we should also re-examine our mission.

I think at this point, the goal is to build a community independent of Blizzard (which has pretty well lost the faith and goodwill of everyone who's someone), and perhaps even WoW itself. This is done partly through talking about our lives and views outside the game, and partly by doing what the forums no longer do, which is being relevant to player concerns by celebrating our triumphs, talking through disagreements and issues and drama and such, and by ostracizing ninjas and idiots.

The only major thing that the other mods can't do but I can is ban people. So far, the ban feature has only been used (in complete seriousness aka more than a 2 hour ban) once. Mods correct my mistakes constantly (ex. unlocking/renaming threads). In fact, the only real difference between me and the other mods (besides the ban power) is the color of my name.

celebrating our triumphs - A very large portion of this community has either quit wow or takes it incredibly casually. There have been threads on here before about it, but its 4.0, what do you want? Everything's been cleared and there really isn't much to talk about that's going on in WoW right now besides bitching about 4.0.

talking through disagreements/drama - I'm pretty sure we do this already. The MAIN point of this site is for (practically) unregulated content. Almost all of the threads that have been locked are due to the violation of our whole 2 rules or because there are duplicates of that thread on the front page. What I'm getting from this is that if you were in my shoes, you'd be willing to lock some of the more vibrant and heated arguments in favor for order, which is exactly what blizzard did and why many of us are here.

ostracizing idiots/ninjas - This already happens within the community and doesn't need the backing of the moderation. Not to mention that everyone gets a free pass when they join FUBU anyways. Not to mention that if mods start singling out people for what they feel is "bad content" (which is entirely subjective, btw), why would people bother coming to the site at all?

As for the people who are saying I'm a bad spokesman, maybe I am. For the people that I've been friendly with in the game, I feel like I'm a pretty nice guy. However, I'm an asshole that's definitely got too short of a fuse when it comes to generic brain aids. If people read my posts and go 'Oh man, mayo's a dick, why bother posting?', are we really losing any quality people? Even if people flat out don't like me and they KNOW I don't like them, that hasn't really stopped even people like Spure and Nechrachilles from posting here.

I don't really think my name has much to do with it, especially since I wasn't nearly as outspoken and as well known during wotlk as I was during tbc. If people don't come, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. We already have quality threads with a healthy amount of posters anyways. While I'm always liking the idea of getting more people in the pot, I'm not especially willing to change our "mission statement".

One of the major things I've taken away from being admin here is that no matter what you do, someone's going to be pissed off. Right now, I'd rather make the site vets happy as opposed to start changing the site into god knows what in hopes to grasp a couple hearts of people that nobody knows.

If you guys are actually serious about this, I'm really interested into what you would do if you were admins.

Personally I'm happy with our admin structure. Thus far, we've basically proven that for the most part, our community moderates itself. I don't think changing around admins would have any impact on recruitment.

I would like to see an influx of new posters, but if these posters are going to be random morons, we don't want them. We want people who match our culture (have played the game for a while, aren't total asshats, slightly vulgar, somewhat educated and able to contribute somewhat intelligent opinions to our topics, etc.).

I'll talk to fellow always online nerds about posting here. I think a lot of people are turned off from posting because of the nature of the relationship between the 50 or so people that have known eachother for years. Its kind of intimidating for new posters.

On topic slightly who the fuck is candygram?

I think the only time I've talked with 90% of this community was when it started. I liked the idea of it. There are a few I knew in BC/WOTLK. Not from Vanilla cause I came in BC.

I like the community for the most part, a few people I don't particularly care for but then again the same could be said for me by others. All in all it's pretty awesome stuff. No unnecessary moderation or people flaunting with blue text saying be play nice kids or anything.

I would have to respectfully pass on any admi offer if it were to come. I actually need to spend less time on forums and more times on porn sites. Those girls are not going to earn their college tuition on their own. Actually I really need to cut back on forum time since we are slow at work and keep getting oddball projects.

If we're looking to market ourselves...why would you not leverage the incredible asset that is me?

I'm like, virtually famous and stuff. Good players like me and carry me because I'm fun. Casuals like me because...I'm casual. Bads like me because sometimes they can kill me, so they don't feel so bad.

Honestly, of all the people on the server, who is more awesomer than I am at glad-handing?

Your Pal,
Jubber
