I keep a powered HEPA filter in my room and leave it running when I'm not in. Every month or two, I take out the filter and wash it in the sink. The other day, I was getting thermal issues with my PC, so I opened up and removed all the dust, then set the HEPA filter to run on maximum for a few hours so the dust wouldn't resettle.

Image

I was introduced to these things by my father, an OCD infectious disease doctor who has since become a professor of pediatrics at a prestigious medical school.

About 10 years ago, I took apart a bunch of ATs, XTs and PS/2s that had been running for years. The heat caused the dust to turn into a viscous black ooze. Incredible.

Yea I've seen that black human skin cell ooze. I forgot where though. It's pretty gross.

Yeah, running from a shitty laptop atm.

Because now it seems I need a new CPU. Which isn't bad, since I was in saving for a new computer anyway.

But I won't have the save up for another 1-2 months D:

I'm pondering if I can get an CPU from Best Buy or something, use it, and subsequently return it after 25 days or whatever and maybe get to play some TF2 once in a while.

what exactly is the problem with your computer at the moment?
i mean, i'm sure over-heating is the obvious culprit, but i doubt you'd have to buy another computer

The most valuable thing he has is an 1100w PSU that will never get put to good use. It's old as balls and needs a new mobo most likely.

I was thinking ahead.

Probably a little too far ahead.

Like I said, I was planning on a new computer for a little while now.

I could get a rad CPU, new Mobo and some more ram and actually be able to play things on their awesome settings. I could get a faster HD but that would just be kinda silly as I don't care much about that.

The Mobo and and CPU are almost 6 years old.

6 y/o cpu? so a pIV?
6 y/o mobo? so you have DDR1 RAM?

i'd imagine going from a pIV to a hexacore processor will certainly give you one helluva boner
