40 to 50 rarely more, unless something unexpected comes up (which I make a point of not being subjected to as rule #1 is "No suprises")

I have a few friends that still put in the 80+ hours, a few that like me down shifted, and some that are getting by on happy pills and booze hopefully contemplating the same.

Some people can do the long hours, but they need a passion for whatever it is they do and a family that can live with their lifestyle. For the rest of us, it'll just send you to an early grave.

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

80 hours/wk... family? Must be the most unhealthy relationships ever. I think some people seriously exaggerate the amount of time they work. 80 hours of work a week is serious 7 day a week time commitment, it is literally YOUR ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE. 80/7 = ~11.5hrs/day.

That's not including sleep, getting ready in the morning, daily commute, lunch, grocery shopping, preparing meals, etc... Not even counting time to space out by yourself, watching any TV, doing shit with family and you're already pretty close to 24hr if not already there.

2200 billable hours...

They literally do 12 hour days, plus 8 on saturdays, day in and day out.

The really sick part is you cannot stop thinking about work, it's always on your mind, so what little time you have away is not really yours either.

None of them, though I in my experience, it can work even if it's less than ideal.

My parents both worked fairly long hours (dad more than mom, but she was a vp for a major tech company so her hours weren't much better); but everyone lived close by, we had a nanny, ate dinner as a family most nights and they always tucked us in. I think what matters most is how you spend the time you do have together.

Though it did shape my choices, because I watched my parents put in serious hours and not get a benefit that seemed worth what they gave up, so when we had kids, I down shifted to enjoy the family life and am just building experience until the last one is off to college, because the long hour gigs will still be there when I'm ready to commit to it.

Anyone in a management position in the hospitality industry (restaurants, hotels, resorts, etc) will work between 60-70 hours in a normal week. If there are special events/holidays it can get to the 80-90 range.

I'm a Sous Chef at a restaurant in northern VA and I average 65ish myself. My personal record was 107 in one week when I was working at a resort in Colorado. It was the week of Christmas and I worked 15 hours every day, and 17 on Christmas day itself. Sucked donkey balls, but hey, i love what I do.

Normal week = 40 (we get bitched at for OT on normal weeks)
On-call week = 50ish plus call outs. A call out is a minimum of two hours and I have had one that turned into a 28 hour day.

When I used to work as a Best Buy delivery driver I we regularly capped out at 70 hours unless a manager had something that he fealt like ignoring the DoT rules on then we could end up with more.

I work 112 hours a week and the remaining 56 hours I am on call.

I'm a mom. I'm always workin :p

As far as "paying" gigs go, I work around 5 hours a week doing freelance work.

Ha-ha just like Callysta I have a kid so I am always working but the job that hands me a check varies, I am in a salary position so I stay till the job is done. Some weeks it's 35 some it's 75 just depends on if servers need upgrading/replacing/patching etc. Or if we have a big implementation like the next 2 weeks I am sure I will be working 75 hours or more.
