I am a little late to the party, just getting caught up.

I am not sure I see the issue with a personalized thread like that if it is not hurtful or insulting. The cluttering rule is in place to...keep fewer threads from being produced? I thought what we wanted was more activity on the forums?

As someone pointed out, 95% of those @ threads are immediately hijacked and turn into a group discussion. So then wouldn't it be up to the mods to look through each thread to see if it remained a personal conversation? And if so, lock it? Isn't that over moderation and sort of against the main idea of fubu?

I am a fan of extreme moderation if it prevents fighting, insulting remarks and offensive nonsense..but if it's a harmless thread directed at someone else that turns into a discuss...what's the harm there?

If you prevent those types of threads, wouldn't those people just use FB, aim, msn, or another message board instead? And thus contradict the goal of getting more activity here?

Also, how dare you lock anything Jushiro posts?!

:)

To be honest, the @ posts on the official forums ended up being some of the more interesting threads. I just see it as a way to get a particular person's attention while still allowing the rest of the community to give input as well.

Also, it always made me happy to get an @ post :D Maybe I'm the only one, idk. I don't see what the big deal of having them is, but that's just my opinion.

If it's still a matter of clutter, maybe keeping @ posts to one? If someone sees a thread directed at themselves get bumped, I'd wager that they'd check it.

Rule #2 doesn't outright ban @ posts. It exists to discourage posts meant for one reader only which will contain nothing of substance for anyone but that reader. If an @ post has a clear message that could conceivably apply to more than one person, it should be fine. If it's a one-liner that also happens to be an inside joke which means dick to 99% of us, it's getting locked and too bad so sad.

Someone just happened to throw a hissy fit over one moderated thread, which led to blanket locks that I'm sure were thrown out to make people shut the fuck up and appear as though we've got no favorites.

Poor Mayo :( The only time he gets an @ thread is when people are bitching at him. Like a bunch of harpies on your rag, all of ya! <3

I don't see the point in patrolling the forums so hard so that everyone abides by these "rules".

How forums normally work, on just about any community I have been apart of, is they typically allow a "ffa" post so to speak. No matter what the thread is people will generally open it just to get rid of the "new post" marker. From there they read maybe a couple lines and will decide there if it is something they would return to if conversation continued, or something they will ignore and "mark all topics as read".

I can see things like moving threads to appropriate forums or directing someone to an already existing thread... but not bombing a thread just because it doesn't appeal to yourself or what you think everyone else may or may not find appealing.

A few days ago with an "@ Zaryi" thread they had mentioned a game... I was curious about the game and did some research on it and thought hey... I might try this. Before I could reply to ask further about the game like what server they might play on... it was locked.

Just remember, threads that are not popular will typically fall off in a day or two at the rate people post around here... they don't harm anyone. The @threads... if they didn't want the community to see it or maybe show some interest in it... they would make it a PM. Typically I make @threads so the person will generally get an idea of who it involves and not to mention they are probably the most viewed threads.

Have you ever seen "New Jersey" on the Enclave forums? That's what total lawlessness looks like.

The rules are really goddamn simple and most people follow them by accident because they're basically natural extensions of common sense. That said, there's polls open for you to get your voice heard. Also, Paddywack is morbidly obese.

That's because some people on this forum title threads about as aptly as they did book reports in elementary school, and well, most don't.

That's pretty true. I'm sure i'd click a lot more threads if they were titled more sexually.
