This has never come close to happening.

I went back to the first few pages and found a number of the type of threads you're complaining about, some of which were started by mods themselves (See: http://bucketguild.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7900). They were not locked and the forums weren't inundated with personal conversations.

This is because of the moderation. Imagine if every post in the music and derpstuff stickies were their own thread.

When people get home from work and they have something like 1.5 pages worth of threads that are new, I deem this to be a problem (which has happened, which is why I've been actually enforcing the rules). In retrospect, I shouldn't have made that thread, but I did. This is a board for the people, not another AIM/Facebook messenger place, which this place has a larger chance of becoming now.

PS: "the first few pages" isn't 7 months ago. I really like your dedication of combing through all of my posts for an issue that's already been voted upon.

Basically, it comes to this: the community has spoken, so arguing about it further makes 0 sense.

I voted for the option that Mayo also prefers, but our side lost...it's cool, and i'll happily continue with the new forums, but that doesn't mean I have to think that we as a community made the right decision.

Personally, I have no idea why people were getting butthurt over getting

@soandso ZOMG I SAW YOU IN STV-type threads

or

@soandso HEY LOG ON TO THIS RANDOM THING SO WE CAN PLAY TOGETHER I LUV YOU

locked.

Mayo's point is that we had so few rules, and even that was too much for some people...which is kind of amusing. There's obviously two visions people had for this forum:

1. Anarchy reigns supreme. The community will moderate itself. We can do whatever we want, and mods only function to...idk, ban people the community has decided are asshats?

2. Transparency reigns supreme - The blizzard mods were over-zealous, and didn't even explain why they locked threads and banned people. Our mods should be significantly less zealous (and we have waayyyyy fewer rules than Blizz), and if they lock threads or ban someone, they explain exactly why and it is clear to all in the community.

Option 1 has won, I think this forum will still be great, I just personally feel having some semblance of order/structure is vital to keep the community honest and functioning.

Unless the mods were merging a ton of threads into that one, there were only a handful of posts locked for that reason.

By this statement, I think your vision of these boards were more along the lines of a cliquish place than the earlier touted unofficial BH forums. If people have that much to say it's not up to you to start modding because there's too much going on.

Again, not really something that has happened in the past (when there was no moderation) and no reason for it to happen now.

I wasn't combing through any posts. I was looking back to see how many @ posts there were and if they were being moderated. You seem to think the sky is going to fall under the weight of all the facebook posts and I wanted to know if I had missed the part where there were ever that many.

please point to a time when this board was ever fast moving?

i'll see the same half dozen threads being posted in for 3 days straight and nothing else.

this is a pretty slow moving board.

no, the rules were being improperly applied.

the rule was very clear with the clause of what made a thread lockable, and very very very few of the threads locked fit that description in any sense whatsoever.

my post @akina log onto aim? fuck yes that was lockable, and that was a risk i was willing to take because 1) i didn't care if it got locked i needed no replies and 2) i really needed to talk to her about something.

but a thread about a funny video actually didn't break either rule. and there is a difference between posting a specific personal message to someone and directing a statement/question generally toward a person but inviting public comment thereon. you can't accomplish the second in private messages, that's the whole point.

i think it might be time to stop blaming the community for these problems. i'm not trying to make anyone the bad guy here, but i know that personally i have come here less and less because i know all i'm going to see are a few "omg obama is teh sux" "omg obama is teh awesome" "i have a job interview" and a "why i get banned from wow forums -aetsu" threads. none of those are any fun. the moderation of these boards has effectively squelched the fun that used to exist on them to a large degree.

I could not possibly disagree with this statement any more.

Perhaps I've had my head in my ass (quite possible), but how many threads have ACTUALLY been closed in the history of this forum? I feel like it's a relatively small number, yet you think it's enough to take all the fun out of the board? You think the threads that have been closed have changed the entire culture of the board? How so? Just because Mayo locked your "@Akiina, hey I want to talk to you but can't figure out how to use a PM or facebook, or whatever" thread doesn't mean that the fun of the board has been "squelched." It means you were butthurt about it, and so decided to stop coming here as often and only bitch at Mayo when you do.

We can still talk about pretty much anything (seriously, I made a thread about suicide). We can post our stupid pictures and videos and memes. We can post about "so and so is a ninja". We can discuss Aestu at length. I can curse: (fuck shit ass bitch cunt w00t). The threads you refer to are ones that the COMMUNITY has decided to post in..if you dont like them, then I apologize on behalf of the community for not entertaining you enough.

Seriously...what more do you want from this forum? You are trying to paint this picture of some forum with an evil tyrant (Mayo) running it that is simply not true.

This forum has been, and will continue to be, what we wanted when the project was first discussed on the BH official forums.

What more proof do you need? The one point of contention (closing @whatever threads) was brought to a vote. The vote has been decided, and Mayo is complying. He's bitching about it, which is his right, but he is complying with the wishes of the community.

IDK, maybe I'm retarded....but I feel like you've huffed a little too much glue before posting, Dek.

1. I really dont care
2. I do appreciate Mayo putting this together because the realm forums had become horrible beyond belief
3. If you don't like FUBU, there are always the realm forums with the new UPS brown backgrounds (no offense Meowth).
4. Some threads did get locked out of spite, it happens, but Mayo has been very flexible with threads and posters, even allowing people we know he does not like post because free speach is what FUBU was founded on.

The extent of my moderation has typically been to fix people fucking up their quote tags (like I did here, take that Dvergar ;] ). I think I locked one thread ever, and it was because Muerte was being a cockrag.

I've done a fair share of thread splitting though, which seems to always be met with angry hurling of dinner at computer screen no matter how appropriate.

Hey guys, I saw this funny thing!

LOCKED!

That makes someone not want to post funny things anymore. The quantity of new threads has become all but non existent in the past month or so.

It's not a function of how many threads were locked, it's the impression that if you post something it very well might get locked even if you didn't actually break a rule.
