So, a while ago I quit/deleted my characters. When I came back, Blizz restored them...but alas, the name Azelma had been taken. Therefore I was forced to re-name my character AzÉlma. The accented e became the bane of my entire existence.

1st: Only 1 out of every 10 people is actually capable of typing it, so this was a bitch when getting invited to groups or anything.
2nd: The accented E made no sense in the name...it looked stupid
3rd: The person who had the name "Azelma"? A 58 blood elf deathknight...that is still 58.

Knowing my character name was taken by some belf asshat that never played made me a sad panda. I opened a ticket and tried to get it back, alas, they said no because the "account was still active"

Oh what I would have done to find the person....and tell them "fuck you, give me my name you arent even using it"

Just yesterday, I was again brooding about this when I decided to look at that persons Armory (to see if they were still 58 ). Alas, their armory wouldn't even load...this meant...perhaps they hadn't logged in, perhaps their account was inactive!?!?

I opened a ticket, the GM checked and yes...it was inactive. The name was freed up, and I shed the terrible accented E forever. This is my story.


TLDR: Bitch ass 58 belf DK had my name, but he let his account go inactive, so I got it back. Suck it!

Anyone ever have any name issues? Have your name taken (because of transferring of server etc.?)

My first character is named Fantanas. Since I made her five years ago, all my characters have Fanta at the beginning of their names. I've had my eye on the names "Fantabulous" and "Fantastical" for a while now, but both had been taken. I've had them on my friends list for 4 years, hoping they would log on and let me have their names. Armory never showed anything when I searched, but it never occurred to me to ask blizz.

Long story short, I petitioned blizz about 2 weeks before cata and got both names! yay!

Rabidewok stole the name Rabid from some level 3 after like 2 years being named Rbd. Then he transferred and it was taken again.

and I know that in early Vanilla when you got your name flagged, they'd change it for you instead of letting you rename yourself. It happened to Gulaja, who started the game off as Sonofspam.

They actually took names seriously back then, rofl.

i even moved and killed the npc in the orgrimmar battleground queue room

sadly someone else had my info from when i let them dualbox my account to run them through dungeons and they deleted it :<

When I xferred back from Firetree ~4 months ago, a mistake and a typo landed me with the name Zrayi.

Thankfully my pathetic, pleading ticket won the heart (and soul) of the gm who got my ticket, and he fixed the issue.

So does that mean people can steal my name?

Right click on your name, click invite. It worked in chat too.

Haha obviously....but your assuming that the average person playing WoW isn't a complete retard....quite the assumption sir.

I imagine they'd have to prove you're well and fully inactive, and I only know of them ganking names away from like sub-60 DKs and sub-10 everything elses.

Plus, they still have to pay for the namechange I think.

That was right before you lost your name, and may stir your memories as to why you lost it.

Actually, that's very incorrect . I did change my name at that point (your screenshot). However, it was still available when I changed it back.

I deleted my character a little over a year after that, which is when someone else took it. If you want you can ask Jushiro, I remember I was running around STV on Eponine and told him that I needed to quit WoW. I believe I even spoke in guild chat about it and people said ("you'll come back") Obviously they were right.

But yes Tehra, I do remember exactly why I changed my name in that screenshot, it's not something I try to hide from. I called out a bunch of guilds, burned bridges with the guild I was in at the time, lost a lot of friends, and basically made a total asshat out of myself (and I woulda gotten away with it too if it weren't for your meddling haha). Seriously though, I learned from it, and got over it. Ancient history, as it were.

Is there anything else you'd like to point out though? I mean, I get it, you're smarter than me, take more screenshots, and are the greatest ambiguously-cryptic forum poster there ever was. Compared to you, I might as well be shit. You can quote me on that, and take an SS.

I was simply stating that what you so eloquently summed up, that you burned bridges and were essentially asking for a karmic payback regarding your name on one server of hundreds.

Oh, and I was right. I did take your name after you went to eponine, but mostly because I had intended on making a forum post from it for shits and giggles, but decided against it and deleted the character. Someone else just took it over after you lost it again.

Oh, and I don't care about being "better" than anyone. I just know people can be better, and should stop worrying about trivial shit. As far as cryptic goes, I'm cryptic at this time due to certain constraints that are slowly being lifted. Of course, that'll be labelled as cryptic, but if it wasn't addressed, then that'd be labelled cryptic.
