I wasn't there for the defeat, and I don't take it personally at all. TBH I was just rather impressed Horde got so close only to fail by a few seconds. They did manage to win the next battle (mostly because, like I said, TB and DU were raiding and I wasn't there either with my 1M/min damage-soaking capability) so at least they got a chance at seeing BH!

Tol Barad is unintentionally stacked against attack.

Attack requires coordination, defense requires you to zerg one thing after another.

Expect it to change, because if Wintergrasp was any hint, Blizzard wants TB to change hands regularly.

Maybe, maybe not. It's possible the actual goal was to make it less of a zergfest and require players to communicate. Or it could just be Blizzard mindlessly implementing random paradigms without any thought to the consequences. My guess is B.

considering there was NO pvp panel at blizzon whatsoever, I'm assuming they just threw it in there and will make changes as people bitch.

It seems like the twin pillars of wow being Raiding and PvP has given way to the single focus of raiding. Arena didn't work out like they wanted and I doubt we'll see WoW being pushed as an e-sport as much as it was.

The biggest indicator to me was a blue's response during beta that put pvp, professions, and something trivial (playing the AH maybe) as being all on the same level.

I think with Blizzard's upcoming "next gen" MMO, and with the announcement that Diablo 3 will have arenas, the pressure is off for them to continue pushing WoW as an e-sport platform. The devs can now shift the focus of WoW back to PvE (where it started in Vanilla) and balance more difficult content with new abilities without feeling like everything needs to be in absolute equilibrium just for the sake of PvP. IMO, it's refreshing, and reminds me of what kept me playing in Vanilla.

http://wow.joystiq.com/2010/12/17/the-p ... -fix-them/

There are six distinct problems with Tol Barad at the moment:

1. Defending Tol Barad is too easy.
2. The cap mechanics to secure capture points make it too easy to switch.
3. The towers in Tol Barad that grant extra time to the attackers have no reason to be defended by the defending faction.
4. Tol Barad's victory condition for the attacking faction has created a frustrating environment in light of the mechanics at play in the battleground.
5. The graveyards are skewed in favor of the defenders.
6. The losing side in Tol Barad receives no Tol Barad commendation for participating in the battle, while the winning team receives three.

Cataclysm, at this point, really does appear to be the best expansion ever, including Vanilla.

It would be even better if it didn't directly follow Wrath.

Three things about the new MMO:
1. It will be more adult, and represent a new franchise, and thus a much more uncertain and "cold market" sell than WoW was - and it may not prove to be as huge a hit. Remember, WoW's success was actually an accident. It was not expected to be orders of magnitude greater than EQ.
2. It will be a MMO FPS, which means that it will be apples and oranges against WoW, meaning that WoW may persist and will likely continue to be supported well into Titan's lifespan, as players who like one may not like the other
3. The fact it will be an MMO FPS means it will be more e-sport friendly.

Thinking about it more, I think this is actually the intent. They don't want players clocking in for their marks, they want to encourage offense and effort. Nor do they want the kind of back-and-forth in WG; I think the intent is to make it so that a change in hands is the product of determined effort.

Devil's Advocate: Is it possible that simply because WotlK sucked SO much, it has in caused Cata to seem infinitely better ("best expansion ever") in comparison?

Regardless, thus far I completely agree (although I never played Vanilla and as such wasn't able to see the Vanilla-TBC transition). I'm not even 85 yet, and I've loved my Cata experience. I like having a challenging game again, I like how bads aren't able to get away with being quite so awful. I've enjoyed the changes to my class, and everything else. So, perhaps Blizz isn't as retarded as I previously thought.

However, the one worry I have...is when will Blizz start nerfing everything and giving into QQ? My thought is this: When the bads start canceling subscriptions because they can't zerg everything and get free epics.

The almighty dollar will speak.
