This is one of the first non-corporatist decisions Obama has ever made.

He's still a staggering disappointment and his dagger's still digging into my back, but hey, I'll take wins where I can get them.

When all you read are campaign posters and speeches, you set yourself up for disappointment.

I don't remember any president who actually had enough time to deliver on most of their campaign promises.

All i've seen are presidents coming in all piss and vinegar, then realizing how fucked up everything is, then they age 10-20 years in 4-8 because of the stress of putting all those fires out.

The fcc's framework wasn't even close to net neutrality which is all packets treated equally as they currently are.

Democrats are no different than Republicans in that they all serve corporate masters.

True, but he's already lost some major points (ex. dragging his feet on Guantanamo, DA/DT, no public option, passing bush tax cuts). What I'm most pissed about is how when he moved father to the right and he loses the votes of progressives and then he starts calling out people to the far left like they owe him something.

Considering the enormous public opposition to what did get passed in regards to health care, it's no surprise Obama couldn't get single-payer. It was another six steps in the direction causing the uproar. If liberals were realistic, they'd realize that getting what they did get was abso-fucking-lutely amazing. Single payer just is not going to happen in this country any time soon.

As for Guantanamo, I think he went into office with every intention to close it, but..."When we got into office, the thing that surprised me the most was that things were as bad as we'd been saying they were." -- President John F. Kennedy------The information Obama had before winning the election and what he knew after made a lot of difference. I think it's commendable that he changed his mind based on information he didn't have before instead of sticking with a campaign promise.

I also thought DA/DT was on its way out?

For anyone cheering over this,

1) why were you personally so concerned over "net neutrality"- What were you missing out on the internet right now that made you buy into this?

2) did you know that current licensing standards given to internet providers are not renewed if an internet provider chooses to block content such as google etc. in the manner that net neutrality advocates threatened would occur unless we pass massive legislation? So basically any company theatening current free standards would after a short time no longer be able to remain a service provider.

3) if you think anyone was being greedy by an attempt to block the passing of this FCC power grab, then what kind of affect do you think this is going to have on the economy around you and do you simply not care about how this will actually impact you or you country financially at all?

4) Do you approve of everything the FCC does so well? What about people being sued over downloading a song, do you think this will change anything for the better in this type of situation?

I would really like to hear people's researched opinions on this.

I'm personally finding it very difficult to cheer over what I think could be one of the biggest fuckings by my gov., since the Patriot Act (fueled the same way: by a "what if" campaign), which is still intact (and renewed) by the way- despite certain politicians' campaign promises to get rid of it.

edit: I'm not really going off on anyone here, just in general over the throes of nonsense I've heard by pro-nn likes.

This would make sense if I said anything about single-payer, whereas I'm not talking about anything remotely close to that.

EDIT: This was also a public that, when scared or poked with a stick, will bend over backwards to fuck themselves over to enforce the status quo. If there's anything I learned during the Obama presidency, its how powerless the common man is to the will of the top 1%.

I thought the RIAA was behind the bullshit lawsuits? If anything, the FCC is the person that sues you if you show a nipple on TV.

Also, since when in the hell did net neutrality become such a bad thing?

Also, I'm watching your videos and I fail to see the whole "the FCC is bad but the internet is fine the way it is" when I'm pretty sure (and don't quote me on this) that the FCC has been working pretty hard to keep the internet neutral for some time now.

I didn't really follow the whole net neutrality thing close, but instead asking us what we know, tell us why you think it's one of the biggest fuckups ever? I don't think it will make anything change for the better, more preventative changes than anything.

From what I understand, for broadband users:
1) They can't block or slow websites
2) No prioritization (like promoting one of their own services, making a competitive service slow)
3) They can bill people who use more bandwidth more

Seems reasonable to me.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly what the FCC is trying to enforce. I also imagine that if you could prioritize, you could intentionally give competitors slower speeds, since I don't think that's too far of a leap.

Having watched the second video (I imagine that since they're from the same site they're pretty much saying the same thing), their only real argument is "We can't trust the government because they're always grabbing for power over us and are constantly trying to take our money". Sounds pretty paranoid to me.

We have traffic shaping here. Like on my current internet plan torrents are throttled so they go rly slow. Do you guys have that in Amerika or is that currently illegal?

Trying to get my head around this somewhat.

Its currently illegal for you to get charged more if you download more. If the FCC stops enforcing net neutrality, what's probably going to happen is that you would be able to get different alottments of resources (ex. 5 gigs/month of downloads) and would probably be fined or have your service shut off if you went over, a lot like cell phone minutes.

Also, its illegal for ISPs to get kickbacks from people in order to give their sites faster (ex. AOL can't speed up AOL-affiliated sites or people that pay AOL for faster service). What people are fearing is that if we get rid of this, untold millions of sites would be reduced to a snail's crawl since they can't pay the big bucks to get their site "turbo-charged", which would cause people to stop going to them, which would then cause them to shut down, making the only sites that load up within 5 minutes be the sites that could pay huge amounts of money for the extra bandwidth (read: corporate and corporate-affiliated websites).
