We have traffic shaping here. Like on my current internet plan torrents are throttled so they go rly slow. Do you guys have that in Amerika or is that currently illegal?

Trying to get my head around this somewhat.

Its currently illegal for you to get charged more if you download more. If the FCC stops enforcing net neutrality, what's probably going to happen is that you would be able to get different alottments of resources (ex. 5 gigs/month of downloads) and would probably be fined or have your service shut off if you went over, a lot like cell phone minutes.

Also, its illegal for ISPs to get kickbacks from people in order to give their sites faster (ex. AOL can't speed up AOL-affiliated sites or people that pay AOL for faster service). What people are fearing is that if we get rid of this, untold millions of sites would be reduced to a snail's crawl since they can't pay the big bucks to get their site "turbo-charged", which would cause people to stop going to them, which would then cause them to shut down, making the only sites that load up within 5 minutes be the sites that could pay huge amounts of money for the extra bandwidth (read: corporate and corporate-affiliated websites).

There is already plans from ISPs that give you an allotted amount of bandwidth available to you for a given time period. Comcast is fairly generous and gives you 250GB worth per month.

Because using google for a definition and then citing the site you took the definition from is the exact same as copy+pasting things you find from a google search and act like you knew them first hand.

Pretty sure the challenge was issued - Prove that he googled and copy/pasta'd, otherwise shut the fuck up and deal with his points like any sensible person would.

Well I didn't know that people do that. I imagine if net neutrality doesn't get passed, however, these limits would become much smaller.

I gave citation on the quote. It was from Bastiat, who along with Jefferson and Locke are probably the most quoted authors on the subjects of personal freedom and limitations on government. You just want to get mad (nerd) and split hairs because someone is rubbing your own silliness in your face.

Like Eternal said, if you want to show where I copy-pasta'd, you young interweb afficionados shouldn't have any trouble at all finding where something was taken word-for-word from somewhere else. High school teachers can do it, and they're so dumb that they waste 4-8 years of education to get a job that pays peanuts.

that job probably paid better than the average non-tenured high school teacher.

I am actually an UNDERemployed forklift operator. I'm doing piece/day work until people start hiring again after the first of the year. I was probably making nearly what local teachers here make when I was fully employed (though it's hard to compare apples and oranges, since they're salaried and I was paid for excessive amounts of overtime), without the expense of several years of college.

NJ is not going to be so generous after Christie is done, Tuhl, and with the backlash against government employee wage and benefits, it's probably not going to be as generous in a lot of other places, either. I honestly don't think teachers are the main cause of the budget crunches related to state employees in most states, but since they're the most visible they'll probably take the most abuse.

With science and math scores going down the shitter, the best choice of action is to fire teachers or lower their salaries so much that there's no point to becoming one.

Makes perfect sense.

I don't disagree with that. I think teachers get more of the blame than they deserve. The real problem(s) with education are probably more related to the centralization of authority/responsibility for education at the federal level starting in the middle of the last century. The previous model of control/accountability at the state/local level was more effective. Since education has become more federalized, the budget for education, especially at the federal level, has increased but the results have become less and less desirable as more money has been allocated.

While I think that part of the reason the results are far less desirable when matched against previous records is that the measure(s) of those results have changed, it is apparent that funding is not the main issue. We throw increasing amounts of money at the problem every year, with results continuing to deteriorate. Even if we argue that money is a factor, we have to recognize that there are obviously other factors at work impeding progress to our desired outcome.
