I remember that one, I lived in York. There was another storm in 93 that was bad too. They closed the city down but for some dumb reason the superintendent didn't close the city school, so we walked to school in the roads. We did eventually get some days off and it was freaking awesome.

I remember this, I was so happy school was shut for like 3 weeks but then my basement flooded :(

Won't someone please think of the saturnalia decorations during this thundersnowstorm?

Yes, thunder, thunder, thundersnow, ho.

The fucking blizzard got my flight back home to Boston cancelled today, and now I'm stuck in Florida instead of having fun being in a shitload of snow.

Stupid US Airways being afraid to fly into a blizzard.

Keep me posted, I want to know how the snow is going back home.

Am in England currently, snow is here but it's boring.

I remember the '96 storm. That was a blast.

On another note, I'm sort of upset at this storm. News stations were all "ZOMG SNOWPACOLYPSE AHHHHH", and honestly, I'm in Western Mass, we usually get all the shit out here, and it's usually a mess. The snow was too light & the wind being what it was, I can still see part of the parking lot across the street, because the snow that fell got whipped around. My driveway though, total mess on one side, and barely a dusting on the other. L-A-M-E.

Also, driving back out here on the Mass Pike yesterday, all the emergency road signs read this:

Blizzard Warning
Use Caution
Avoid Travel

...

I'm on the road, reading your signs, and you're telling me to avoid travel. Nice job.

I was in 4th grade during the blizzard of '96.

Best week ever.

Yaaaaaaay, it snowed! The power also went out, which deminishes the 'yaaaaaay' factor by a fairly large amount.... :/

edit: nvm, power came back 5 minutes ago

Actually we're having crazy winter storms because of the effects of the hot summer in the northern Atlantic. So yeah, it is global warming precisely that causes it.

A big blizzard doesn't mean things were particularly cold (they weren't here, it was in the 20s which is pretty standard), just that there was a storm with a lot of precipitation while it was below freezing.

And even cold winters can be an effect of climate change generally, though that isn't what happened here.

Kinda like those crazy Hurricane seasons we've been warned about over the last couple years?
