The real question is: What if he were suddenly cursed to be as right as he thinks he is?
Imagine the chaos.
Your Pal,

tbf, everyone is in a way: our bias and worldview color our perception of everything we experience.
However most people are amenable to adjusting their perception for conflicting information allowing it to be influenced, with the notable exception of hot button issues like politics, religion, etc. where most everyone is as you say "cursed to be as right as he thinks he is."
Where he shines is that he's obstinately opinionated about pretty much anything. In my experience he seems almost entirely incapable of admitting fault or error, because he perceives himself as the victim.
He literally argues himself into a ridiculous position from which he cannot back down and everyone else is to blame.
He still has some interesting takes on things that make me consider my own view more carefully, however I try not to waste my breath, because debating anything with him is like debating politics on the internet: either you see it his way or you don't get it.
