Really, I wonder why we have so many guns in this country at all. I think about places like England and Canada where violent crime is so much lower. In England, the cops don't even carry guns.

The Queen's Guard have military rifles though.

Couldn't agree more.

Another thing about handguns - Revolvers are largely without safeties. They're also my favorite type of weapon because of that reason and the lack of jamming.

And then you have places in America where guns are by law in *almost every house hold and violent crime was nearly erased.

Unfortunately we have too many people in this country who care about power over others than personal rights.

My reasoning is we are cultivating a police state, encouraging more officers to use force and disregard civilian rights; while simultaneously going broke paying for wars on drugs and trying to control everyone's personal decisions.

All guns past hunting rifles (heavily regulated to the point where you almost need the prime minister's signature) are banned, we have police, we also don't have a single speck of any sign of fascism in our country.

That's because we don't elect the only rich fucks who can afford to run for offices for the purpose of becoming richer fucks.

I didn't read past the bottom of page 2 (I'll get to it) but here's a few things.

For starters, I'm fairly certain cops are trained to shoot for center of mass. They don't shoot to wound because that's far more difficult and if they miss in open areas they're likelier to hit bystanders. Center of mass will put you down one way or another, even if you're so cracked out you can't feel pain. It's not humane, and it's not always justifiable, but it's prudent and cops are trained to not die.

The cop in question (well, the case was apparently already decided according to the text in the video) won't lose the criminal case, because policemen aren't represented by public defenders the way poor people are, and because the county prosecutor isn't going to try very hard (nor make his interns work too diligently) on putting one of their own away. It's cynical, but that's reality and it's the reason cops are almost never nailed for any kind of criminal negligence/recklessness.

The cop's more than likely going to lose the wrongful death suit, though, assuming one gets filed. The man with the club was entirely within his rights to brandish a weapon according to the MPC's section on defense of the home. You're allowed lethal force without an obligation to retreat even if it's your front porch, and this guy was apparently in the hallway right outside his bedroom. That he gets plugged once in the chest at range while holding a club might be excusable (not justifiable, there's a difference) but the extra bullets, the guy's voice fucking breaking when he's standing by the body and talking to the squad, and what Dvergar said on page 1 about the policeman recognizing there was no imminent threat means the civil suit's as good as won.

Okay I've figured it all out.

Clearly the guy was out of his mind and knew the police were coming in.
He then made a split second decision to end his own life to save from going to prison.
So he committed suicide by cop.
But he did so in such a way that the cops could and may be prosecuted by it.
He gets his way and they might go to jail.

This man is a genius.

No need to thank me. I'm glad to have solved the mystery. You may all go home now.

This is an extremely graphic and traumatic video of an officer who waited FAR and ENTIRELY too long to engage a hostile target during a traffic stop and paid for it with his life. It is now used often as a training video to show police officers what happens when they wait too long.



The officer's name in the video was Officer Dinkheller. When he died, he was 23 years old. Just some food for thought.

I don't think anyone here has a problem with it being attributable to human error. More specifically to his situation awareness at the moment he pulled the trigger.

It's the court's arbitrary ruling of it as justified that I have a problem with.

Edit: yeah that video was fucked up, signs of aggression were there from the beginning, as soon as a part of his body reached into his car I would have filled him with holes. He kept saying put the gun down, motherfucker has a rifle and he's half covered - eject lead at high velocity.

That cop had more faith in humans than most, and it cost him his life.

That being said, we're basically seeing two extremes here.

I absolutely agree. I'm not in any way condoning the original video, just posting this one to spark further debate if anything.

the vast majority of police never have to fire their firearm, and a good percentage never acutally have to draw it.

its usually, USUALLY, the major metropolitan police that are the ones drawing down on people. The media don't spend a whole lot of attention on routine speeding ticket stops, obviously.

As a police officer you never "Shoot to wound".

I'd have to have all of the evidence before making a judgment on the first video. Too many variables to consider.

The second video was just heartbreaking.
