Looks good. I never tried the first one because of the average review on it by G4, but I lost a few early WoW friends to that game.

Aren't some of the GuildWars developers for blizz employees?

The no-monthly fee will guarantee a solid amount of people playing this.

Yea, I watched that video and Zaryi has done a good job hyping me up for this game. It looks stunning... even the purple lightning Deathwing looks awesome. Is there an ETA for a Beta or Release?

When is Guild Wars 2 going to be released?

When it's finished. Guild Wars 2 is the largest project ArenaNet® has ever undertaken, and we want to make sure we take the time to do it right.

When will there be a beta?

Although we publicly beta-tested the original Guild Wars® while it was still in early development, with Guild Wars 2 we will commence beta testing closer to the game's release. Guild Wars 2 is a very large and ambitious game, and Guild Wars players rightfully have very high expectations. We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experience it.

I've read that the beta will be shorter so people aren't using the beta just to find out how best to level.

The original Guild Wars was the game alot of my friends played before WoW. I started to play it around the time WoW was picking up steam and it was ok. If they are designing it to be a bigger better GW then it will do well. If they are designing it to be a WoW killer they will fail. Oh, and that "no monthly subscription so it will kill WoW" is bullshit. In the time I played GW two 60$ expansions came out to enhance game play, that 8 months of WoW subscriptions plus the original game. they get your money one way or another. The biggest thing I found with GW is that if you wanted to be left the fuck alone and just play at your own pace you could. With WoW even on PVE servers, there is griefing by opposing factions or dicks in your own faction that like to camp quest mobs. I personally have no plans to play any new games other than possibly ToR.

I played the hell out of GW, and there's still people everywhere in the game.

A game doesn't have to be #1 in sales/subscription to be successful.

Gave away my original GW account and just DL'd it again for trial success. Only thing that I absolutely hate is the amount of rubber-banding that can happen. Move forward and I'm suddenly 200 yards where I was, except not really, so it just bounces back and forth between those 2 spots until it catches up/unfucks itself. Otherwise it is an excellent game.

Thinking about doing this, tbh. I miss my elementalist, and I never got the chance to play through EOTN or Nightfall.

Yeah, GW does it's positioning all server-side, so when your connection unfucks you go back to where the server thinks you are. WoW does the opposite.

The advantage is that you don't see people glitching around in PvP due to their lag. The disadvantage is that it's annoying when it happens to you.

My first question when GW2 was announced was "CAN WE FUCKING JUMP?"

I hope elevation still extends range.

fairly certain there's jumping in the hour long gamescon footage I linked :D

edit: from a dev blog:

Quote:
One of our priorities in developing Guild Wars 2 has been to make the simple act of moving around and interacting with the world an enjoyable experience for our players. We often refer to this as introducing "joy of movement" into the game. This means being able to jump and swim freely, but it also translates directly into combat.

and oh god every time i see that screen of divinity's reach i get a little excited
