well really, the whole idea of a monarchy is stupid.

In a perfect world, an entirely intelligent, fair, and kind monarch (a dictator might be better since its absolute power without the bullshit of the royal family) would probably be the perfect form of government, mainly because the public as a whole doesn't know what's best for it and legislatures can drag out incredibly crucial decisions.

What if there was a school/institution that chose a variety of boys/girls from all the best places in society or something (like, test every child, and when they score ridiculously high, they get admitted...only admit 500 or so children).

Then from a young age, all these boys and girls are educated in all areas of law, science, math, religion, ethics, etc. There is a strict emphasis on ethics etc...philosophy and the like. As soon as these young people hit the age of 50, they are eligible to become supreme dictator/ruler with absolute power for exactly 1 year. Anyone in the program who isn't selected can then function in other areas of the government in service to dictators etc.

Then, after the year, a person from the next pool of 50 year old super geniuses is selected.

Selection could be done by a citizen vote.

I vote Aestu for supreme semi benevelont dictator.

at the very least the press interviews would be more enjoyable.

I could see this as an advisor role for the supreme dictator, but more cooks spoil the broth. Not to mention with one year terms, I don't think much would get done.

Perhaps it could be extended to 3 years. However, I think much could still be accomplished in one year, because again they are supreme dictators. Much of the disgusting inefficiencies of government/bureaucracy would be eliminated.

I like your advisory idea for all those not selected to be dictator.

A benevolent dictatorship is the ideal form of government. It is, unfortunately, impossible.

Same with communism.

Great on paper, impossible in practice.

It's because humans are, by their very nature, selfish and easily-corruptible assholes.

I was trying to imagine how interviews and everything else would turn out in the unlikely event Donald Trump somehow became President.

This just in - there is no such thing as an entirely intelligent, fair, and kind monarch/dictator. If there was, they wouldn't be able to please everyone since we all have different values, opinions and regional needs. Consider this: If the smartest person on the forums were this supreme ruler, would they be able to please both Mayo and I on the issues we differ most on?

I've heard Trump talk the most but say the least in terms of substance.

How does that go? - He who talks the loudest often has the least to say.

He made his money by abusing government handouts and imminent domain. The republicans should be using him as an example of the problem with the government system.

Real classy accusing Obama of only getting into Harvard thanks to Affirmative Action.
