I think it's unfair. Here's why.

I bet they will deny people who test positive for Cannabis, but alcohol and cigarettes are perfectly fine. If you're going to make it so taxpayers aren't subsidizing "drug addictions" like cocaine, then they shouldn't be subsidizing other drug addictions like nicotine or alcohol. Studies have shown that people with a lower socio-economic status are the have a much higher chance of being smokers. Why should taxpayers pay for that?

But that's just the hypocrisy of American society.

Edit: Although to be fair, cigarettes are partly so expensive because of their taxes...so when people get on welfare and buy cigs...they are really paying the taxpayers back a little, while killing themselves and insuring they won't be a drain on the economy later in life (SOCIAL SECURITY IS FER EVERY1 HERRR DERRRRRR).

So please poor people - smoke away!

Yep - but still drugs!

No, I see the point, I'm just pointing out the hypocrisies of drug legality in this country. Carry on.

I don't think there's any point in testing for alcohol and cigarettes, as a) both are legal, and b) I don't think chemicals you'd use to test for either of those would stay in your system long enough to make testing effective. This legislation if mildly self-defeating since, if you read far enough, those that fail could still make sure their children are covered by naming someone else as the person controlling your children's aid.

Jubber

Anyone who thinks this legislation isn't 100% fair and common sense is being an apologist for their own pothead status. That is the unequivocal truth.

Yeah, whoever thinks that...fuck that guy!

No, I see the point...this legislation is fine for hard drugs...but pot should be legal and therefore not part of this legislation. Sadly, that is not the case.

I used to think that, then I watched some people who started smoking pot. It turns you into a lazy, useless fuck. They became less and less motivated until they were just doing the bare minimum to pay the bills and be able to smoke...which they did constantly. That's not everyone, and I know some people who smoke every now and again and hold a job and take care of their shit, but the people who are on weed that are applying for welfare might be where they're at because they're living the pothead lifestyle.

As long as pot is illegal it should remain in this legislation. That's some really limp dick reasoning you have there.

Very solid point Jubber, and actually now that I think about it - this has made me realize something. Recreation should be earned. If you hold a job, work hard, and continue to do so...then you have "earned" the right to indulge in vices in my mind. If you are on welfare instead of finding a job, and are being a lazy sack-of-shit-pot-head, then fuck you...I hope you test positive and Uncle Sam stops paying for your Jimi Hendrix albums and primo Purple Haze Ganja.

Pot is like anything else in this world - too much of a good thing is most definitely bad. Just like people can drink too much, fuck too much (Tiger Woods), smoke too much, or masturbate too much, or simply smell too much of their own farts (Aestu), people can smoke too much weed.

However, I have known enough people who smoke, but lead highly effective lives, that I don't think the problem is the drug itself. If you were to have that logic, then alcohol should be "really bad" because a great number of people become alcoholics.

See above. As a taxpayer, you and Jubber have convinced me of this fact. Pot, in my mind, SHOULD be legal. However, it isn't. Therefore, it fits perfectly into this legislation.

I'm sorry, I thought as conservatives you were all about less government and more personal freedoms/responsibilities? Isn't the war on drugs totally converse to that ideology?
