well, how much does a single person make off of welfare? 5 grand a year? that's a lot of tests to be paid for by NOT paying that particular person welfare.

But does it pay for enough tests to make the expense worthwhile? That's why I asked - I couldn't find anything written about the expected costs or savings from this type of program.

If they pass deduct the amount of the test from one of their welfare checks. If they fail at least you don't have to give them any money. One other aspect to the test is frequency. Some drugs flush out of your system way faster than others. So you have to decide on how often to do tests and whether they should be random or not.

You might be speaking of your own response.

I addressed your point head-on and you disregarded that portion of my post in which I pointed out that your world view isn't rational or viable.

Krunkz wrote:
About the let a few go attitude I have. It might seem wrong to others but I have seen what happens when people desperately hold on to saving someone who has given up on every thing, including themselves. Some times when people don't want your help, it's best to leave well enough alone.

Again - facile response. You're fortunate enough to never have to be on the other side of that fence, not only because of your inheritance but because like you say you were fortunate enough to have family and work.

Would you be able to pull it together otherwise? Who knows? I say it not as an ad hominem but simply from what I see that you are sufficiently impaired by your usage that I am skeptical. I see pot is enough to hold you back from in-game goals. And my observations as such corroborate my convictions about the nature of pot.

This is the only scenario you will accept as ever happening because you were told weed is bad, weed is a gateway drug and weed raped your mom/sister/dog and ate your homework.

I was never told any such thing. You're seeing only the reflection of your own views.

I made no claims as to weed being a gateway drug - my conviction is that what weed can do is bad enough.

This kind of person would stick out like a sore thumb. That's if they were even able to show up and perform any kind of duty. A hard core druggie is the guy waiting to rob and stab you outside the office late at night.

No, that's a hardcore POOR druggie.

I know plenty of rich dudes all mixed up in coke and I can not fucking STAND being around them.

A hardcore druggie is the guy who seems alright but is unemployable because his condition makes him utterly unreliable.

Our government hasn't put out projected spending costs in years, wink.

Government numbers probably wouldn't be reliable anyways (unless Florida has a nonpartisan budget officer to check them), but surely some independent groups with an interest in the topic could get some reasonable numbers.

I have serious doubts that there is such a thing as "nonpartisan" where our governance is concerned.

The staff would obviously hold some sort of political views, but the point is that they don't work for any of the parties involved and are transparent about the numbers and models they use, unlike politicians. It's a very useful system - US Congress, Canadian and UK Parliaments, and a number of states all have an office to fulfill this role.

Actually, I wasn't very well off from the age of 17-20. Mainly doing construction work living pay check to pay check. At the age of 20 I got a job doing network upgrades with a company called Wachter in my area. We did Walmart and Target network upgrade on contracts. From there I jumped to commercial real estate research and field tech support for a company called Xceligent. On the other side of the fence was my brother. A few years older than me. Exact same situations as me but in the end he was a weaker person who turned to hard drugs when the chips were down. Eventually he tried to kill himself but even failed at that. My mom spent 4 years taking care of him before she died. I've experienced both sides of the fence you always talk about but probably will never see. I even managed to pull it together when my first fiance was killed by a drunk driver.

I kind of laughed when you mentioned "in game goals". I honestly met dam near all of my in game goals when I smoked enough to be cast in a Cheech and Chong movie. In Wrath I wanted Bane of the Fallen King and a Rusted Proto Drake. Seem to have gotten them. Now i smoke maybe 2-3 times a week tops and I still enjoy the game. I have no real goals for Cata but to play the game with my bro's in NQR and do raids with Borderline Amazing. And before you go on a rant about xferring to a progression guild I hafta say, yes I xferred. Mainly because I just wanted to continue playing the game with my NQR bro's. After I got there i realized it wasn't as fun in those settings. Atleast it didn't cost me a dime of my money though. :D

Gogo Florida drug tests for welfare!!!

except tobacco companies. If no one cared, it would be legal.

Tobacco companies can just as easily sell pot cigarettes.

its the pain reliever companies that don't want pot legal.

Probably more than just them don't want to see it legalized. When people say "drugs" and the first thought is "pot" it's because that is how the war on drugs is brought to the media. You will never see a commercial about the war on drugs showing two heroine addicts sharing a needle or an opium addict shoving a small dose up their ass. For the sake of this law in florida though i think it is good that marijuana and all other illegal drugs are gonna be tested for. I am not gonna sit here and preach that pot has no side effects or consequences. But I am not gonna let someone tell me tobacco and alcohol are any better just because they are "legal".

In this scene you paint you have the blessing of a responsible family and employment opportunity which is more than many have. I'll spare you my own sob stories.

So in other words, you shot low and managed to hit.

And yes you xferred. Then you xferred back. Spare me the "it wasn't as fun as I thought". I've watched you play. You're seriously impaired. If you want to deny that it is your loss.

Actually, that's exactly how it was presented where I went to school. It was pretty gross, not going to lie.

You're willfully ignoring what people are saying. Many of us (Laelia, Tuhl, me in particular) are as insulated from the media as it is possible to be. We're not Nancy Reagan fanbois. No one is heaping pot and heroin in one big pile.

What we've said is directed right at pot. The argument isn't that tobacco and alcohol are better because the are legal, the argument is that pot is uniquely dangerous because it induces apathy and unreliable behavior.
