Essentially:
-you can obtain all content required to play through influence points earned each game.

-You can obtain all extra content with riot points (rp) (the only extra content is additional skins that provide no "playing" benefit other than looking more awesome)
-You can obtain most content which requires influence points (ip) using riot points.

The gain to buying RP is buying champions faster, buying skins, and buying ip boosts (100% ip gain) and experience boosts which are actually detrimental imo.

edit for additional thoughts:

it's free to play as it says, there are no player vs player benefits by buying riot points.

If you are not overeating then the lunch sucks.

Following your analogy, the lunch MUST suck. The business model is predicated on people paying for the additional content. If people aren't doing that then clearly the product isn't working as intended.

You could argue that either you're willing to let other people be more stupid or more hardcore than you, but the game will always be balanced around compelling those people who are stupid, impulsive, or hardcore to spend cash. That is why I say MT/modular games will always suck.

I'm one of those people who never incurs credit card debt. I'm a terrible example of an American consumer. Of course their business model is based on people who aren't me.

Balanced on paper doesn't matter. What matters is the quality of the experience. The experience is undermined when each iota of the game is designed to promote marginal spending.

Usd, I don't hate "everything" - my argument here is not that "every" monetization model sucks, it's that A is better than B. Besides, didn't you say the latest geneation of games are "just good enough to play"? Don't you think monetization might be a driving force in low game quality?

Should also be noted that the game allows (and I believe the company encourages) custom skins - the only thing forbiden is using their purchasable skins as custom skins.

With custom skins only you see them - not the opponents.

Agreed, but I don't believe that applies to this free to play game anywhere near to the extent it applies to let's say...

every game nexon has ever made.

I started playing last night with my brother and some of my SC2 bros. It's a lot of fun even if it is frustrating trying to tell noobs not to charge into towers at level 2 >_<

It's started to get frustrating when every team I face has 5 of the most op champions.

guess I can't play champs that are fun have to stack op ones...

I just started 2 days ago so I don't know much about which champs are best but I really like Annie and Alistar depending on what my team needs. One combo I hated fighting against was Ashe and Taric I think? Just chain stun/slow so annoying lol.

Heh I'm still trying to get a hang of how to W->Q correctly. Really necessary to have high movement speed with him so you can get behind the enemy and w them back into mobs/your team it seems.
