I listened to the full audio on my original link while I was eating lunch. Over the course of an hour or two, there were many reports coming in about attacks; people bleeding, people getting pulled out of cars by mobs, people jumping and hitting cars, etc. The dispatch was overwhelmed and they had almost two dozen squads to the area trying to police the situation. I doubt they're going to call in the national guard or put the city under martial law, but they did what they could do with how wide-spread the problem was. From another video, "...19 officers were in the area responding to calls, but the activity would ebb and flow. When the officers would have one area under control, disturbances would pop up in another area."



Sounds like the cops weren't being cowards but were instead just a few steps behind the mob. If our roles were reversed and if I suggested using weapons (or at least flexing police muscles by showing weapons) to deter or prevent the mob, you would reply, "Excessive use of force... unarmed mob... wasn't a threat to anyone... cops are cowards for bringing guns to a knife fight... etc."

Ok.

I mean, you talk about how you want to be some sort of uniformed badass, but at this time you're championing this guy's right to be a dick over...a tree with some tape around it.

That's a pretty far cry from drug dealers, murderers, rapists, and what have you.

Then you bitch about how the government wastes your tax dollars. Or how the government passes all kinds of restrictive laws against YOUR freedom. Or how people hold the most ludicrous viewpoints but sheer bias prevents them from compromising and working towards solving problems.

You're absolutely right, I would. And yes being "behind the mob" makes them cowards. Wrestle people to the ground and haul them off. No need for bullets, pepper spray or nightsticks - or curling up in fear.

Nothing is more hilarious when a mob is coming down the street harassing cars and then you see the guy who says "fuck you too" and speeds up/keeps driving right through the middle of it. 1) There were 19 cops spread across the area.
2) Most squads don't roll around breaking up fights and taking reports in full armor. The last time I saw heavily armored police gear is when I was training with a SWAT in preparation for the G8 summit.
3) Groups of kids (some said to be 25 to 50 persons large) can easily over-power a single officer.
4) You're assuming the size of the teens and cops.
5) You're assuming the cop would be able to detain each kid one at a time; when there are dozens of kids, you're talking about a single cop against a ton of flesh. Those odds aren't good for cops even if they're armed.


I don't own firearms to protect me from the government (I don't think I ever said that); I own them to protect my family from criminals because it's obvious the police aren't always able to.

The cop didn't tell you what to do in your home. He told you what to do on a public sidewalk (assuming it's public, of course).

I still can't believe you take my postapocalyptic bullshit as anything but bullshit.

The very fact you would train with a SWAT team for a summit - getting involved in something that's none of your business just so you can run around clubbing people, rather than doing something that could really make a difference and takes balls - reinforces your status as a bully and a coward.

Go to Iraq, or go volunteer in a dangerous area, if you want to make a difference or face danger.

25-50 kids in shirts aren't going to overpower 19 cops with tactics, communication, training, armor and physical fitness.

And no "15-20 year old" kids aren't going to be as large, physically fit or well-defended as cops. Nor are they going to have tactical training.



...but they can waste their time harassing people over two feet of tape between the sidewalk and nowhere.

That's why I was training with SWAT. I was part of an engineer battalion the National Guard and we were to stand ready in case there were riots in DC when the G8 summit (could've been G20, IMF or some other money-related summit that get's all the stupid fuckers in a riotous mood - I forget which it is) came to town in Washington DC.


You act like the cops were single units all smashing skulls together. They were fielded all over the place doing reports and trying to stop the fights.


They may not have the same defense or tactical training, but this wasn't a tactical event. They were squads of cops all over the area. They weren't working as a single, cohesive unit. They were all doing their own thing... and yes, a few dozen kids could over-power a few cops.
