EDIT: I saw Krizen in the title and didn't bother reading until now, and only out of sheer boredom. Only read the last few pages.
My mother (like I said) is an accountant. Prior to moving to CA and becoming a full-time housewife, she worked in the World Trade Center. When the footage flashed on TV, she was absolutely agape. She said she'd have known many of the people on the casualty list, people she hadn't seen for years. But she as much as everyone else thought the response was inappropriate, that Bush just used the thing to do what he came into office intending to do, and that the Sacramentans who were making a big deal about it were just a bunch of bigoted flag-humpers.
About this time, I was employed by an old German Jew who was forced out of his native country, digitizing his documentation about his ancestors and editing his book about their history. While I worked, he would sit in his dingy green recliner and watch the news on a bureau-style TV. Whenever Bush came on the screen, he'd instantly shut it off, pace for about five minutes, then sit down and turn it back on. When I asked him why he was doing this, he said, bitterly, "I don't want to see him." Later, he said, "Ethan, when I see all these flags around, I find it very disturbing. You know, when the National Socialists came to power [he never referred to them as "the Nazis"], they made everyone put up a flag in front of their homes, it was a form of control. And I see the same thing here."
Aestu of Bleeding Hollow... Nihilism is a copout.
