The majority of college students change majors before graduating, it took me a day to go from History Education to Social Work. If anything the Administration wants you to change majors, it often means more classes you would need to take.
Cool story. UMB is subdivided into different "schools" which demand reapplication to the university to switch between them and can deny or simply stonewall at their discretion. UMB doesn't WANT students to take more classes because many of the gateway lower-division courses that are prerequisites for certain majors are severely overbooked, and they categorically prohibit individuals not in that "school" from taking them. There is also the race/gender issue, which whether you are willing to accept it or not is a huge factor in the day-to-day operations of that university.
