if i couldn't get a job because old people couldn't get fired, and they raised the retirement age, I'd riot too.

Or for majoring in something fucking retarded that has no application in the real world...like basket-weaving or Ancient Greek Hermaphroditic Love Ballads or Women's Studies or 'Black' Studies or English Literature or pretty much 85% or so of the catalog of majors.

I agree with this - and I tried to change my major, or add a second major. Administrative roadblocks were insurmountable. Some people who know me well know exactly how insurmountable they were.

The majority of college students change majors before graduating, it took me a day to go from History Education to Social Work. Anyone who blames the administration for not being able to change majors is full of shit. If anything the Administration wants you to change majors, it often means more classes you would need to take.

Cool story. UMB is subdivided into different "schools" which demand reapplication to the university to switch between them and can deny or simply stonewall at their discretion. UMB doesn't WANT students to take more classes because many of the gateway lower-division courses that are prerequisites for certain majors are severely overbooked, and they categorically prohibit individuals not in that "school" from taking them. There is also the race/gender issue, which whether you are willing to accept it or not is a huge factor in the day-to-day operations of that university.

You have to apply to the major not to the school. But hey you're a hyper-intelligent god of all things logic, surely they would be happy to have you? No? Oh must be all them woman and blacks.

You appoint someone to vet people based on race, gender and background. If that's not institutionalized discrimination then I don't know what is.

That's a concrete example. I've also had numerous personal experiences where race or gender were definitely an issue (for example, being assaulted by campus police because a female staff said she was "in fear" of me, despite the fact I made no hostile words or gestures). Campus police, by the way, have police powers but aren't accountable to the government, meaning the campus has in essence not only its own Gestapo but also its own brownshirt thugs.

Red herring.

A red herring is a logical fallacy aimed at shunting discourse away from inconvenient truths and towards convenient irrelevancies and non sequitors.

My rebuttal is not a red herring because it is relevant and logically connected to your argument, which is that the American system has a competitive advantage so far as employment of college grads goes.

A strawman is a logical fallacy consisting of debunking a fallacious argument falsely claimed to be that of the opponent.

The argument I debunked was your own, therefore, my rebuttal was not a strawman.

Since you are unable to respond with facts or logic, it is logical to assume that my views are simply correct. But then you could of course argue that no viewpoint is necessarily correct, and that my view that my views are correct is proof that they are not, in fact correct, which would be...
