I don't see how me making good decisions means I have to help people who make bad ones.

Maybe you should argue against Tuhl's post instead of trying to make it about me. I started writing up a counter-argument but it was basically what he said, so I didn't feel like putting the effort in.

I didn't make good decisions. I majored in history and french as an undergrad, and now I'm making up for it by doing even more school (grad this time) so that I can be a lawyer. The only reason I'm not in debt is my parents are rich and I was born lucky. Why is this not fucked up to you?

You idiots make it sound like the OWS demonstrators are totally uninterested in finding a job. The reason many of them are protesting in the first place is because they were force-fed bullshit for 22 fucking years about how they needed to throw themselves into unescapable debt in order to receive a degree so that when they got out of school, they could get a nice (read: not minimum wage) job to support the happy, tax-paying, law-abiding families they'd soon start.

Then they get out and realize "just kidding! You spent all that time and effort and 100k+ of debt just so we could shit on you some more! Also, get a job flipping a hamburger you goddamn hippie! Don't blame me you're unemployed and miserable, it's not like we purposely stacked the system against you or anything, you lazy fucks! Here's some McDonalds apps, you would've been just as qualified 6 years ago and wouldn't be mired in crippling debt that you'll be paying off for the rest of your lives, but if I'd told you that then, I might've passed for some semblance of a decent human being."

But then, the only real difference between you and OWS is how much you can lie to yourself. You're an overweight, middle aged, sometimes-employed accidental father who just happens to think that he enjoys the taste of rich people shit. If not for that last part, maybe you'd realize you're batting for the wrong team.

I don't think anyone here disagrees with that. If anything, I think I've said it in general to all of you and in specific to you and Aestu more than a few times. Remember when I linked the stuff about how your law degree was probably going to end up being useless paper by the time you got out of law school?

I think it is really fucked up that we tell people for the first twenty years of their lives that if they don't get a good education they're going to end up working at McDonald's...then seem to be at a loss as to why everyone thinks they're too good for a fast food job or that it's something to be embarrassed to be doing. That said, some money coming in is better than no money coming, and as fucked up as it may be, taking a shitty restaurant job will pay some of your bills.

You know, after all the quirks and foibles you just pointed to me having, I'd think it would be obvious and apparent that I'm where I'm at because of what I've done (or not). It's not someone else's fault that I'm fat. I still eat like I'm 20 and my metabolism will burn through 2k+ calories a day. Rich people didn't make me fat. Rich people aren't causing me to age, and it's not their fault I'm "old." Rich people didn't make me leave any of the jobs I quit. Rich people might have been responsible for me losing work because of closures and downsizing, but how many of them were losing their asses when their businesses folded? How many of those layoffs allowed a company to keep doing business so that the jobs of people other than myself were saved? You guys never even stop to consider any other possibilities than the ones you're spoon-fed, like this "it's rich people's fault" bullshit. Rich people didn't sabotage my birth control, or force me to knock up my kid's mom. They didn't force me to quit a high-paying job and sell everything I owned so that I could move back here to be near my son.

In short, the only "shit" that is bringing me down and causing me to be the horrible fat, old father that I am is my own. My life and the problems in it are of my own making, I don't need to scapegoat someone else to feel better about myself...but maybe I'm just "lying to myself" by taking responsibility for own problems. Maybe every problem in my life really is the fault of some mysterious man (or men) somewhere wearing a top hat and a monocle.

If you want to talk about realizations and being on the wrong team, stop and think about how we got to the situation these guys are protesting. You and some of the other rocket doctors here seem to think that the government is the answer to every problem, but the government is as big a part of this problem as any of the "evil" corporations. It was government and business colluding with each other that has put us where we're at. It wasn't one or the other, it was both. Businessmen wanted to profit and politicians wanted more power, which meant buying each other off with favors. A tax loophole here, a no-bid contract there, some subsidies where no one's looking, then all of the sudden someone gets a campaign contribution.

That only continues because people like you buy into the bullshit in the first place. You accept that made-up problems are real. Then you accept that only the government has the power and resources to solve those fake problems. The next thing you know, the government has dumped billions down a rat hole like "green energy," with nothing to show for it except some CEOs walking off with a payday while their companies sink into the abyss and the we get new words like "Solyndra" in our vocabulary.

I was absolutely serious about people on the right starting a jobs program for the protesters (and everyone else looking for work, for that matter). I was also absolutely serious that there is a lot of riff-raff mixed in with the kids who are there with a legitimate gripe about how things are going. Which is all the more reason to get those kids off the streets and into a job somewhere the hell away from the sort of retards that live for nothing but G8 summits and vandalizing shit while they riot.

Wouldn't it make more sense to occupy universities if they're pissed about going 100k in debt for false promises?

Not that it makes any sense to begin with, but it would be less nonsensical.

Okay so I get it, it sucks to take on massive debt and then have no job upon graduation. I get it, our parents generation lied and everyone assumed that you could just go to college and then automatically get a job....

Here's the thing...I didn't assume that. Am I smarter than all those dumbasses who thought getting a degree in ANYTHING guaranteed a job?

Also, when did it become such an evil thing to be rich? I agree, the rich should pay more taxes (they do), I agree that the rich shouldn't get to shit on the little guy...but why all the hatred for rich people?

If a man works hard, starts his own business, and it ends up being wildly successful (thereby making him rich) why the fuck should he feel bad about it? He came up with the idea. He put his own capital at risk. He put in the man hours.

The problem with OWS is that it's all misdirected anger. Everyone's just looking for a scapegoat and the "rich" and "wall street" are the easiest ones to target.

"No fair! You have too much money! You should give it to me!"

I agree, there are some really big throbbing dicks working on Wall Street...anyone who breaks the rules in any way, or takes advantage of people for their own personal financial gain should be thrown in jail and lose all their money. However, someone who is simply a hard worker (privileged or not, irrelevant), and has found success....why get mad at them because they are winning in a broken system?

It's fucking stupid - people are occupying the wrong street. They should be occupying Pennsylvania Avenue, or the Washington Monument, or harassing congressmen.

"Don't hate the player, hate the game" - it's really a simple concept.

Yea, but then you're asking the OWS people to actually make sense. The reality of this all is these guys didn't have to go into massive amounts of debt to be successful in the world. As I've pointed out in another post that's fallen into the abyss of FUBU, there are several ways to help reduce the cost of an education... but all of them require more effort than taking out several student loans and hoping you can afford to pay it back. I think that's part of the problem is the people who are saying, "I'm not lazy" are the people who would rather just take classes without having a positively viable way of paying it off. This is a hard lesson that would've been otherwise a non-issue if these guys would've considered more than, "I'm going to go to college", when the questions, "How will I pay for this education", "What happens if I don't find a job", "Is going to college for (insert major here) and accumulating $XXXXXX in debt going to be worth the return (if there is a return)" or even "do I really need to go to college to be successful" should've been answered. It's not hard and if they had an ounce of common sense and forethought. The future isn't certain for anyone so if their naivety told them otherwise then it's no ones fault but their own.

Or is it an occupation to promote uncleanliness, rape, murder, drugs, drum circles, parasites, shitting on sidewalks and disease?

(Edit: One of Breitbart's websites has a growing 'rap sheet' of shit that happens at the Occupy Protests, which I think you'd have a hard time rivaling with the Tea Party protests or whatever.)

I'll tell you what we should be 'occupying' against - how about occupying against the immature fuckholes that want to get violent during the Seattle protest which provoked the pepper-spray response from the police, which indiscriminately and inadvertently caught an elderly woman in the cross-fire. Aren't they the reason this woman is making headlines?

The rest was simply math. In each city you have hundreds to a couple thousand people protesting. The populations of metropolitan areas where the protests are taking place range between 2.3M (Denver) to 22M (NYC), where NYC is where most of the largest protests have been happening. Today is going to be a telling day as the protesters in NYC attempt to literally 'shut down' Wall Street. They're expecting 'tens of thousands' of people to protest today... which is considerably less than the whole population of the NYC metropolitan area. What's the point, really? "We're going to try to shut down the stock exchange for a day!" Big fucking deal. I'll do my trading tomorrow. And when these idiots start blocking buildings and stop people from taking care of their jobs (their families and whatever else), I hope they get fucking rocked. I get protest and I'm happy when people do it (peacefully) but I can't stand when some self-righteous kids think that they're more important than the rest... doesn't that make them no different than the Wall Street 'fat cats'?

Oh, and again, the Tea Party never acted like these kids. No citation needed.

Sorry tuhl, but if you go into debt getting a dead end degree, I don't have sympathy for you.

I didn't go into debt while i was in college because i went in state, i lived at home, i got grants/scholarships, and I worked.

I understand that law school is very expensive, but there are equally lucrative prospects coming out of law school so it balances out in my book. If, however, someone were to go out of state to a massively expensive college for a degree in sanskrit, fuck em.

Not sure how Tuhl got the impression he did, but I would like to help out the 'normal' kids there protesting in a way that's responsible and get them away from the influence of "the usual suspects" that gather at leftist protests to cause trouble before the lot of them are painted with the same brush as the sort of idiots that push old ladies down stairs and start shit with the police.

Its nothing personal, you just took about a paragraph to rationalize your own shortcomings and then two paragraphs to give the same spiel with the same talking points you do in every thread ever.
