A couple points that are being overlooked with wizards in combat:
1.)
Nonverbal spells - the best wizards can cast spells without having to say anything. Now I will admit, they do lose some effectiveness when cast nonverbally, but they can still injure an opponent, freeing you to cast something verbally.
2.) The killing curse has literally worked on everyone ever (except: Harry Potter...see "The Boy Who Lived"). If you are good enough to cast it successfully, and it hits someone, it will kill them instantly.
3.) You're also ignoring the ability wizards have to conjure shields, fire, lightening, etc. etc. a Jedi and Pokemon would have a lot to get through.
4.) Broomsticks - yes I said it. If a Wizard has immediate access to a broomstick (or even if he doesn't..he could summon one
Accio Broomstick)...let's say a Firebolt or Nimbus 2000, he could fly around well above the Jedi (yes I realize Jedi are agile and can jump quite high, but could they jump hundreds of feet in the air?) casting spells at the Jedi as he pleased. I'm not quite sure how fast spells move, but through movie depictions they seem to move almost as fast as bullets. Would a Jedi be able to dodge every single one? One misstep and a jedi gets hit with a binding spell (
petrificus totalus) the Jedi is thusly rendered immobile and an easy kill
5.) Potions - a smart wizard would have potions at the ready to deceive, improve combat skills, heal wounds, etc. What if the wizard took
Felix Felicis? EVERY aspect of combat involving Luck (will the spell hit, will someone stumble, etc.) would be on the side of the wizard.
6.) Mind control - I realize the Jedi mind would probably be impossible to control with a curse...however a Pokemon trainer? Give me a break. I would take control of a weak minded Pokemon Trainer...then all their Pokemon would do
my bidding. Talented wizards can perform
Legilimency even without the aid of a wand. Don't forget about charms. Pokemon aren't exactly the smartest things in the world (exception: Mewtoo and other powerful Psychic pokemon), they could be easily charmed and controlled by any decently skilled wizard.
7.)
Apparition - Even if a wizard is backed into a corner and may perhaps lose...if there are many pokemon surrounding him and it seems like all is lost. If he's good enough, he can just Apparate and GTFO.
I respect the prowess of Jedis and yes, even Pokemon Trainers in combat...but it comes down to versatility. A wizard or witch is simply superior when it comes to the resources they can utilize in combat.
