Not only does he still have a career, he's still a millionaire, and he's still embraced by thousands upon thousands of fans. This is bad enough...but then I saw this:

I know you're being whimsical. But it depends on how you look at it.

Women are the big losers here, and I don't buy the "nice guys finish last" view. I think that part of being nice is being inclined to challenge oneself, and there's a certain strength that comes from that in the long run.

I was thinking about this sort of thing earlier today. I think that feminist universities (as in, the system as we know it) will ultimately become like finishing schools - social bullshit no one cares about. Finishing schools 60 years ago were like colleges today, and in about 20 years, colleges will be like finishing schools today.

I also think we are going to see more civilian-run military schools, with an emphasis on physical fitness, technical expertise, rigid West Point-like honor codes, and paramilitary training to appeal to:

1) alienated males who want a male-oriented environment, driven to the opposing extreme
2) pervasive, inequity-driven security issues
3) a lack of a clear moral center to society and a resultant need for arbitrary unquestioned authority

Just my own personal musings.

I think the problem is there's this prevailing idea that a "nice guy" = "wuss" Women don't want a man who will just be a pathetic loser they can boss around...at least not in the beginning (obviously after a while in many relationships women will generally try to break the man's spirit and use sex to control him). But yes, in the beginning, women don't want "nice guys" in that sense...so they finish last.


It's the problem I have...I'm too timid when it counts. I'm not painfully insecure in the company of a woman...constantly doting on her etc, but I'm too timid when it comes to critical moments like parting after the date (do I go in for a strong kiss, a casual peck on the cheeck, a hug?), or knowing exactly what to say when I call for a second date.

The pressure in this society is still all on the man in courtship.

The man is still expected to pay for everything (despite the fact that female salaries continue to rise and get closer...though there is still a gap). Then women want empowerment everywhere where it is convenient...but go out to bars and see how women react to men who would refuse to buy them drinks. The man is expected to make all the moves. The trouble is...too many of us have grown tired of the chase.

It's a sham, these modern social dating constructs.

Thats actually not a bad idea, the military-esque schools.

See if it can breed some aggression back into the male spirit.

I just don't give a shit.
