I want to try BF3 on my computer but I don't want to buy it first and only find out it plays like shit. Does anyone have an Origin account I could use for a few hours one night? I'll install, play a couple maps to see how my computer performs, then uninstall it.

I'm thinking about picking up a 580 or 6970 later this year when the prices come down but I'd like to play it now if my SLId 9800GTs can handle it. D:

Despite having something of a vested financial interest in BF3, I decided not to buy it when they made their shitty Origin platform part of the terms for buying it for PC. I'm even less inclined to buy anything EA related after their fiasco with the ME3 DLC.

I can already say yes you can play it but only on low/medium at some unknown fps because you won't have that much VRAM to work with (I'm assuming 512MB, and no they don't stack) Based on battlelog forum posts and using google translate on some I'm guessing 30-40 on medium pending resolution.

ps, 580 is a dead weight card. 7970/7950 are better, cost the same or less, and can overclock very well.
My Gigabyte Windforce 7970 runs at 60c under max load, and that is overclocked to 1125/1550 up from 925/1375 from stock clocks without any voltage mod. And I might be able to tip it up a bit more if I played with it long enough.

The 9800GT will work 100% with driver 285.62 The beta drivers give problems and i had to uninstall each time and go back to this 285.62. Medium settings are the max for this card but you will need to manually turn up the fan to above 55% to keep it cool. 1680x1050 Resolution will give decent fps. But really a GTX580 for BF3 and all Ultra :)

'm on a 9800gt, and it's the best card ever!lol
at 720p it can easily run @ high settings :)

on 9800GT i have 1600x900 with Low Settings = 30-40 fps

9800 GT 512mb
In the multiplier. - Resolution 1680x1050, everything on low, 40 + FPS
285.79 beta driver course (very good apnuli number of frames per second)

On what settings should I play this card? Auto shows me the texture of high and low, but the rest I know that is a little exaggerated. I have about 48 FPS. So what do you think? I tried it on ultra and I ok.32 FPS. Today I downloaded the latest drivers from GeForce.com and still have not played

Quote:
Palit 9800GT 512 Mb firewood 285.75, 1920 * 1080, playing on the floor, because when you install the higher settings, the FPS drops very noticeably, and at minimum, 35 FPS stable.

Origin is no different than Steam at this point except the Origin overlay is worse.

What sort of malware did they force you to install this time?

EDIT: Origin is different from Steam in the fact that Origin scans your computer and sends your information to advertisers and your ISP if they find pirated material.

Those posts are reassuring Meowth. My concern stems from the beta days when I couldn't play the game on the PC... it never loaded except once, and during that one time the game just showed a still image of Caspian Border from the RU starting area. That's why I'm hesitant to just throw money at the game when the last time I tried playing my system just shit itself.

I have since upgraded my RAM, Mobo, PSU and CPU so maybe that might fix it all. Who knows. D:

The box says you only need a dual core to run it, so unless it's an old as balls Athlon you're probably fine. If you really want I'll give you my login.

It specifically said in the EULA that Origin could take any information they wanted from your computer including personal files and data specs.

There's also Punkbuster, which EA uses that is effectively malware.

Meowth, if you don't mind I'd like to borrow it for a night. Once I check it on my machine I'll uninstall it and let you know so you can change your password or whatever.

It's horrible. I'll wait until some better stuff pops up on this list.

I'll even give you the log file I have if you want it later. Hell, I'll even make another while I play the game just to be sure.
