I think and discuss.
That is really all it takes.

What is 1984 about? What is Brave New World about?
What do the protagonists do that is not permitted?
So easy yet so hard.

Do you find my answer to your question satisfactory, Spure?

What about a basketball court?

You're so abstract when arguing your points, I can't stand it.

Well, a basketball court definitely isn't a court of law.

I think you're on to something. Tennis, anyone?

How about...

Four of them make a gallon?

In what respect is my belief that I think and discuss a fantasy?

Thinking and discussing without action puts you on the same level as people that link YouTube videos and talk and talk and talk but at the end of the day, still haven't done anything to change the situation.

Thought and discussion is itself action. Proof being that the absence thereof is so much more common.

...weren't we just talking about seeing things in extremes? You're drawing this sharp divide between do-nothing and freedom fighter. There's a big middle ground.

There is a big middle ground, I'd agree with you there. I just believe thinking and discussing, while it has it's place, is more on the do-nothing end of the spectrum.

The reality is, what we can accomplish realistically when we're not thinking and discussing is limited to our neighboring communities. This is exactly what I said to people arguing about how retweeting the Kony video and donating $10 to some shitty organization that squanders their donations makes them an activist somehow.

You're better off keeping your $10 for yourself, out of the hands of greedy attention whore film makers who just want a pat on the back. Use it to put yourself in a better position to make a difference.

You are quite similar to the Kony filmmakers in that neither of you have really done anything except talk, discuss and raise awareness. These are all necessary steps in any social revolution, but by themselves they are meaningless. How can you not see this?

Talking is how minds are changed and things go from there. Do you have a better idea?

KONY 2012 has been doing this since 2006 when they released their documentary invisible children and it may be longer, I just remember watching that then. Their project started off with them being college kids going to Africa to document the lives of the children and this is what they discovered. They've always been about spreading the word, it's a fight they want to involve us in but it's a fight they've been doing themselves.

I just wanted to clear that up.

But Aestu you talk about having to discuss things before this change happens. Where or how do you do this?

Back to the original point Azelma, Tehra and I have noted: your intent was never to talk or have a discussion, this is evidenced by your 'if you disagree you're stupid' comment in your original post. Before you rationalize your poor choice of wording, or try to make it my fault for 'crying' or 'being offended' (neither of which I am) you may wish to consider the merit in my argument. No one disagrees the status quo is unacceptable, at least I don't..but you ended any potential for a civilized discussion before the first response to your original post had even taken place.

If you want to have a discussion, don't open it the way you did.

If you want to sling shit around, don't call it a discussion.

It really is that simple.

I'll never respect an organization that sells 'Action Kits' so that 'people will think you're an advocate for awesome.'

That's silly. They're just trying to advertise. The action kit someone decided to buy 6 years ago made an entire high school aware of what was going on in a day.

and that wasn't me telling you to support either.
