Thinking and discussing without action puts you on the same level as people that link YouTube videos and talk and talk and talk but at the end of the day, still haven't done anything to change the situation.
Thought and discussion is itself action. Proof being that the absence thereof is so much more common.
...weren't we just talking about seeing things in extremes? You're drawing this sharp divide between do-nothing and freedom fighter. There's a big middle ground.
There is a big middle ground, I'd agree with you there. I just believe thinking and discussing, while it has it's place, is more on the do-nothing end of the spectrum.
The reality is, what we can accomplish realistically when we're not thinking and discussing is limited to our neighboring communities. This is exactly what I said to people arguing about how retweeting the Kony video and donating $10 to some shitty organization that squanders their donations makes them an activist somehow.
You're better off keeping your $10 for yourself, out of the hands of greedy attention whore film makers who just want a pat on the back. Use it to put yourself in a better position to make a difference.
You are quite similar to the Kony filmmakers in that neither of you have really done anything except talk, discuss and raise awareness. These are all necessary steps in any social revolution, but by themselves they are meaningless. How can you not see this?
