So Pokemon has an online/long distance function? Elaborate

Nowadays, you are able to trade/battle over WiFi on the Nintendo DS. It's similar to Xbox Live/PSN and works great. There's lots of pokemon forums and chat rooms where you can request something and the community is pretty helpful (even willing to trade legendaries and event-only pokemon, all of which I don't have and cannot obtain in any other way). Most of the time, people are willing to trade and trade back, so that you have the pokemon in your pokedex. There's usually only a small risk of not getting your pokemon back, since you get black-listed pretty hard if you don't trade back.

So I say again - ya'll should join us! :)

No, really, I think you and Tuhl and a few others are just "elitist gamers." There is the "right" way to game, and the "wrong" way to game. The "right" games to play and the "wrong" games to play. The "right" system/set up to have and the "wrong" system/set up to have.

Personally, I tend to think people should play what games they want to play, however they want to play them.

This post is fucking stupid.

There is local and online trading, as well as a function in the new games to get randomly paired with people from across the world(japan). It's actually sort of shitty since you can only trade one a time and it takes like 1-1.5 minutes per trade. There is, as it's been said, communities just for trading. Reddit has one that doesn't suffer from reddit-syndrome for the most part since it exists only to trade pokemon and it's relatively small; when i was playing after B/W release I was actively trading and the only bad experience I had was occasional problems connecting to people(the service is far from perfect). The people were pleasant and helpful.

Everyone's a critic.

What's so stupid about it? Do you disagree?

If you're not playing a game, you're not playing a game.

If you like interactive movies, okay, whatever, I guess those might come to deserve to be a genre in their own right. But don't compare that to gaming.

This sort of interactive movie thing debuted during the 3DO/CDi/LaserDisc era. I don't see it taking off any more now than it did then. The central problem with interactive movies is that they combine the weaknesses of movies and games while capturing the strengths of neither.

I used to be very dismissive of sports when I was a child. Over the years, I have come to appreciate the parallels between gaming and sports. Both are leisure hobbies which nonetheless teach very important values such as sportsmanship and the ability to embrace challenge.

Patton said it best:

Quote:
When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big league ball players, the toughest boxers. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser.

Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in Hell for a man who lost and laughed.

The same principle holds with gaming. One need not be the best of the best, but those who have a problem with challenge itself, deserve nothing but contempt. They are doing it wrong. And, contrary to the myths to the contrary, these same people invariably take their "loser mentality" to all they do in life as well.

People like Meowth, on the other hand, go to the far opposite extreme. Some people reject the very concept challenge; others reject it by reducing it to shallow false elitism, stereotyped mimicry and parroting of banal concepts from forums, and nerd machismo.

In other words, doing a lot of unimaginative things to represent having overcome challenge - but in practice, without ever facing it at all.

I feel like you're the only person who would ever have a 3ds.
Which you don't, do you?

Nope, a DS lite. I won't get a 3ds anytime in the near future because 1) the only thing I can play on a handheld is pokemon and the DS lite has a GBA slot that can be used to transfer pokemon from gen 3 into gen 4 and 5 games (so convenient) and 2) the only other reason I'd ever play a 3ds would be for N64 games but my 16 year old N64 works perfectly well and I still have all my games :D

The 12 year old I babysit does this Pokemon battle thing over the wifi.... He is always looking for something. Maybe I can steer him to one of these forums?

If you want. http://www.reddit.com/r/pokemontrades

[5th] refers to fifth gen (black & white) which is probably what he wants. Pretty sure there is an irc too, not sure. The people there have been polite in my experience so if the kid you baby sit isn't an ass hole they'll probably do their best to help. The subreddit isn't insanely active so not sure how it'll work out for a 12 year old's schedule(or patience). He might have to get lucky for people being able to trade at a time that works for him.

Recently? I haven't edited my BDSM Midget wiki lately.

Edit: Also, what?
