if you get GW2 I will have nothing more to say to you.

Hates fanbois but will be anti fanboi just as much. Neat.

Someone has to be counterpoint to you gushing retards.

Gushing? At best I've stated how the game plays and without a gear treadmill.

Also, D3 PvP doesn't even exist yet. If it's not even out yet, how can they test it to the extent that it needs? My guess is that it will be gear/class dependent which follows Blizzard's record of PvP development.

And GW2 isn't even out at all yet. This is not a point.

GW2 won't have competitive PvP. The handling issues alone are enough to make any "skill" totally irrelevant.

You could use a treadmill though, fatty.

If you believe $60 is worth about 25-30hours of fun then Yes.

Else fuck no, if this game was $30 then possibly.

But $60 for this shit is bullshit.

You can go to the diablo forums, amazon.com (diablo reviews), youtube diablo videos and you can see how much hate there is people harbour for this shit.

Ever stop to think that might not be such a bad thing? Ever since I've played arena in WoW, I've thought that there was something worth obtaining from PvP. But what about playing PvP without the competitive desire to be rank 1? I'm not declaring GW2 the heaven of MMOs but the designs looks so much better than anything Blizzard has produced.

I stand by my prediction that GW2 will crush Diablo 3.

We don't mean to sound aggressive, or at least I don't. It's just that GW2 is my only hope for an enjoyable MMO at this point. I can't stand to dedicate my life to wow once the expansion hits, I can't afford console RPGs, and f2p games rarely ever hold my attention. Oh and D3, that game has so many things wrong with it that I don't need to list them.

GW2 won't be competitive PvP because it's an MMO.

You are only claiming that GW2 will be competitive PvP because what you really want is the exact opposite.

As someone else said, having to play vs wanting to play. You know full well what it means.

Skill is what makes it an un-even playing field... not gear haha.

Yes gear is part of it, but like on WoW for instance, the gearing portion of the season was trivial... plus it was nice being able to wear whatever you wanted, like pve pieces if you desired.

If you suck, you suck. Doesn't matter if everyone has the same gear, that's not going to make the game better, or more fun... or increase the replay value... if anything having to gear up first would increase the play time. Which is good.

If you want to play, then progression doesn't seem like a treadmill.

If you see the progression of the game as a chore then clearly the game is not for you.

Which factor should drive people to continue PvP? The idea of having better gear or the idea of being a better player? You said it yourself, if you suck, then playing isn't enjoyable.

WoW just allows for people to suck and still have good gear by easily capping conquest points each week. Also, is it fair to have to learn how to play your class/profession at max level while also playing the gear grind?

This is a case of some people (not you, but not exclusively Meowth either - rather an entire demographic of "bro" gamers) arguing the right thing (GW2 gear system) for the wrong reason (MMO progression is unfun).

Prestige-based progression is better in every sense, certainly in terms of balance, game flow, etc, but sadly only a deceptively few people are really interested in it because it divides the game sharply into winners and losers and frustrates people who don't have the strength of character - more required than anything else - to win.

Too many people really do just want the "A Winner Is You" and blame the game when they can't get it.
The unlikely merit of gear progression is that it smooths out the bell curve.

Taking a break from a game(s) then coming back only to be at a disadvantage is fantastic game design.

It's only a problem if you don't want to play the game at all.

I'm interpreting your comments in the context of PvE because expecting an MMO's gear progression to be balanced around PvP is like complaining your local sports bar doesn't have an adequate selection of milkshakes.

GW's PvP-only system is driven by the fact that PvP in MMOs is a tack-on.

It's the difference between lore and fan fiction. One logically follows the other, but the fact that the latter is a logical extension of the former doesn't mean that the tail should wag the dog. The quality of fanfiction is no more a suitable basis to judge the quality of the lore, than the quality of PvP is a suitable basis to judge the quality of a MMO.
