It is in the interest of justice that the organization and its members both be punished for what happened. They profited from Sandusky's accomplishments, no? They basked in his glory? Then why should they now not likewise share in his dishonor?
Failing to punish organizations and their members for the unlawful policies of organizations and the misdeeds of individual members creates an incentive to "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". And that's evil. No - it is in the interest of justice to create an incentive for organizations to ensure the lawfulness of their members, and for individual members to feel that the law will be on their side if they report illegal activities, rather than going with the flow in the hopes that should they come to light they can plead ignorance or innocence.
If Sandusky's colleagues felt that they would lose everything if it came to light he was a molester they would have asked more questions. Simple as that. Maybe they didn't know for sure if he was, but I think they probably didn't
want to know. And if they had, the abuse wouldn't have gone on as long as it did.
