As someone who runs a startup, you're right...wearing a tshirt is commonplace. Also, I'm an entrepreneur who wears nice shirts and pants o/
I know you'll argue to the death about this, because you're stubborn and want the world to be something that it isn't. Dressing well definitely helps.
Let me ask you, if 10 people are in a room, 9 of them are wearing tshirts and ripped jeans, and one of them is dressed in nice slacks and a collared button down shirt. Who stands out?
Alright, scratch that, you know what it really is? Fashion is a reflection of self confidence. This is undeniable fact. I guarantee the most people who dress really well have significantly more self confidence than those who dress like slobs. I can cite my own life experiences. Being clinically depressed in college, I wore baggy jeans and hoodies. Every. Day. I looked like shit, girls didn't talk to me, I lost a job, it was a disaster.
One day, my sister (fashion major), told me she wanted to take me out and buy me an outfit. She knew my body type, what colors would look good on me, etc. We didn't go to any fancy store...it was Urban Outfitters. She found me a nice pair of jeans (slim), a nice solid green tshirt, and a black sport coat on the sale rack.
I'll never forget looking in the mirror and thinking "wow, I actually look pretty good. Damn." It was eye opening. Now I didn't become some crazy guido primping for an hour every day, but I started to look for clothes that looked better on me. I stopped falling out of bed in the morning and grabbing the baggiest hoodie I could find. -- Next thing you know, I was graduating from college, had multiple job interviews, going on dates, coming to work dressed well and confident.
TL,DR: I'm not saying the clothes make the man, but a man can express himself through his looks, and it's a much better judge of success than you'd think. Go ahead Aestu, show up to an interview in ripped jeans and a ratty tshirt. I guarantee you'll lose out on the job to someone dressed nicely, even if you're smarter than them. Looks matter in this world, and they're a reflection of who you are.
Unless you are Mark Zuckerberg and can code your way to success you're going to need to impress someone some day. And by the way, Zuckerberg wears suits from time to time.
This is what you refuse to see, you cling to your ideals...it's why you will fail if you don't start thinking more. You want to be an accountant? You want to run your own accountancy business? You'd better dress the part. No one in their right mind would open up their books to some slob. Absolutely not.
Again Aestu sees the world as black and white. If you dress nicely, you're just a corporate lackey with no spine. No, true visionaries dress like shit. What a load of BS.
