Fair enough, but being 20% better really doesn't change the mechanics of the fight. Sure it makes it easier because you hit harder...idk, someone said it earlier.

You wouldn't think that the most interesting thing about the Lich King is that he summons bitches who grab a random raid member and try to throw them off a cliff. I feel like they could have done so much more with it.

Here's an analogy. The Lich King fight is like bad sex. Just a whole bunch of thrusting and thrashing about...that doesn't feel bad, but it doesn't feel particularly good either. You still have the nice orgasm at the end of phase 3...but once he's lying there dead, in hindsight, it was just not that great of a time (still just bad sex ) and you feel slightly depressed and dirty.

Yes it does.

-Soul Reaper won't kill a tank without a cooldown
-Vile Spirits won't kill people
-Valks have less HP
-OMG INFEST
-It makes phase transitions much more manageable as fewer Shamblers spawn and Raging Spirits don't stay up as long.

wtf. you have 20% more health and healing too. So tanks can yawn at Soul reaper. It used to require tanks taunting. Healers can pretty much yawn at infest. Soul Harvest also becomes a joke with extra health and healing. Even slow healers can make sure the person being harvested lives.

As far as comparing it to sex. No.

Krunkz is more of an authority on sex than Azelma? I think not.

At the end of the day I think they designed the heroic versions or at least the 25 man version to be the real fight. If you have to use a 5-30% buff to beat it, then you're not doing the real fight.

c'thun is still my favorite boss fight in the game. that was a genuinely challenging encounter because you had to make 40 people move intelligently and in unison. it had everything. spacing requirements, movement, mob kill priority, multiple areas with different functions...

i especially liked that beyond the big tentacles, there was no tank. the fight had no player that became the focus. everyone had to perform, and everyone was important.

i'm sure there are fights since that are similar, have similar mechanics or a similar mix of mechanics at least, but c'thun was the first and i still think the best.

No. They designed it to be completely beyond the skill level of most guilds until weeks of attempts with the buff at 30%, so this one encounter would be a brick wall for most serious progression guilds, that are good enough to get the other 11 hard modes down in short order, but not world-class enough to complete it. There's been less than a hundred kills worldwide after what, three months?

The encounter is well designed at an execution level, but the programming is sloppy and the raid comp requirements are just plain retarded. Two hunters, four paladins, a disc priest, a Desecrate DK, as many lolwarlocks as you can get, and basically every other class not needed for a raid buff is severely disadvantaged.

I see your point...although the mechanics themselves aren't changed...they just don't have as big an impact (well, any impact) :D

I still stand by my original statement that the fight itself is MEH. From a DPS perspective anyway...even if that 20% buff was gone, and Soul Harvest was more of a bitch etc...wouldn't really make the fight any more exciting/harder for me.

Please explain to me the reasoning behind the class choices so that I may better understand for I am a noob.

Hunters for dealing with enraged shamblers, paladins for aura mastery rotation, disc priest for infest, desecrate dk for valks, and locks for spirits.

derivative encounter. like i said, there are fights since that are similar, but they made the mold with c'thun.

seems to me with yogg they took elements of existing fights and threw them all at you at once. yes, difficult, fun, etc. but there had never been a fight like c'thun in the game at the time.
