How do YOU personally define who or what God is? How do you define the 'act of Creation'?

Do you believe that creation and evolution are mutually exclusive? Can one only exist if the other does not?

Personally, I define God as love for your fellow man and meaningful interpersonal relationships, reverence for the world we live in and a desire to leave it better than it was when you arrived. In the 6000 page sleeping pill we know as 'the Bible' it describes God as the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

If the Universe has always existed, then it always will exist, by definition of what the Universe is.

I do not buy into the belief that He (he? lol) is a superhuman Genie-like being sitting on a throne in the clouds zapping sinners with lightning bolts and tractor beaming good people up to some fabled afterlife.

As far as the act of Creation, something created existence. Whether that something was the Big Bang, random probability or Super Jesus Man 5000 remains to be seen. My belief is such that based on my definition of God, I attribute existence to the Big Bang and random probability over the course of vast amounts of time..which is where evolution comes into play. We as humans did not go from single celled organisms to skyscrapers in a thousand years, ten thousand years or even ten million years. Since the universe's existence is infinite, this leaves infinite chances for life to come to be.

That is as close as I would come to defining our Creation.

So yes, I do believe the Earth, Life and the Universe can be accidents. Are you implying that because some facet of our Existence has beauty to it that is fully intentional?

Well, I consider myself a man of science...one who understands the facts of evolution, and so on.

That being said, the way I view God is a force of creation that we could never hope to truly understand.

I don't buy into the big bang theory completely. I don't accept that all of this, this whole world/universe came out of absolutely nothing, without any intervention. I think SOMETHING had to create that initial spark...some power/force/ that we can never ever truly "get" tipped the first domino that has lead to humanity/our world.

Do I think that God is a force that cares about what we all do in our daily lives, and would interfere in events? No. There's too much evil in the world for me to ever accept that a God who is all knowing and all powerful would allow such evil to exist. The only thing that makes sense to me is that this "force" which helped create the universe is completely detached/outside of it.

I hope there's a heaven, and if there is, I bet it's something that we as humans could never hope to understand, but I also bet it's the place where this force of creation resides.

All you have to do is eat some magic mushrooms. You will get your answers to the universe from there. You will see what death is like, realize that there is something incredible happening behimd the scenes, and you might run into the system of eternity. You'll also realize that all of this on earth is something beyond miniscule but still something so amazing. But then the trip will end and you will once again be blind forgetting the majority of what you experienced which couldn't even be put into words anyway.

I'm probably very much off-topic but I wanted to talk about those incredible little fun guys

The chaotic Ginnungagap sat lifeless, stuck between a burning realm of fire called Muspelheim, and at the opposite, a freezing realm of ice known as Niffelheim. Fire, with it's energy, supplied power for life. Ice, with it's solidarity, supplied structure for being. When a spark of fire collided a drop of water in Ginnungagap, two beings formed: the frost giant Ymir, and the cow Audhumbla. From Audhumbla Ymir garnered nourishment, and from the freezing end of Ginnungagap, Audhumbla licked the salty, icy stone, slowly melting it the ice, and shaping the stone.

Soon, the mix of Audhumbla's warm tongue against the salty rime stone would lead to the formation of another being of stone: Buri. Now as Ymir grew, he stretched closer to fiery Muspelheim, and he began to sweat. From the sweat of his left underarm, he created two nameless children. These two parented a number of children. Buri mated with one of these nameless children, fathering Borr. Borr would mate with a grandchild of Ymir's nameless children named Bestla.

Borr and Bestla bore three sons, Vili (also known as Hoenir), Ve (also known as Loki) and Wotan (also known as Odin). These three boys would grow into men under the primordial rule of the frost giants. The giants out numbered and therefore, limited the freedom of the young gods. Seeking to end this rule, the three brothers would slay Ymir and flood Ginnungagap with his blood. This causes the death of all Ymir's lineage - the frost giants.

The three brothers then use the corpse of the fallen giant to create Midgard. His flesh is used to create the earth, his skull used to encompass the sky, fashioned mountains from his bones, wove grass and trees from his hair. The three brothers then created Aska and Embla, the first humans, to populate their new world. Odin bestowed upon the first humans life and souls. Hoenir bestowed upon the first humans wit and sense of feeling. Loki bestowed upon the first humans countenance, hearing, sight and speech.

And now you know.

In the meantime, the universe is essentially one giant fractal based clock, set in motion to determine every possible outcome of every life that ever could be. As far as "allowing evil", last I checked, farmers use fertilizer to allow their crops maximum growth. It may be worth it, but you're still going to have to handle a shitton of shit to do it.

Also, Nido, try the sumerian mythos next time. Perhaps you should ask Azmaria about it, since Sharru is a god of submission.

I think the real question is what is beauty.

I don't solve problems like "What is beauty?", because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy.

I solve practical problems.

I solve both. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

There was that time in a hotel in Boston when a young woman tripping her non-balls off on shrooms told me about the auras she was seeing from other people, until she told me about mine.

"It's flooding the entire floor"
"Look outside the window"
"What the fuck?"

Shrooms were fun that one time.
