At any rate, HFC or glucose/fructose contains about 45% glucose/55% fructose.

"sugar" as you call it is sucrose which your body breaks down into 50% glucose/50% fructose.

glucose/fructose/and dextrose are all "simple sugars" or monosacchrides

sucrose is a disacchride formed of one fructose and one fructose.

I find the concept of advertising pepsi kickback as containing "Real sugar" absurd because HFC is a "real sugar" that's all.

edit: assuming pop uses HFC55

At the risk of sounding corny, I hope you didn't pay too much for that schooling.

"Memory Loss and Alzheimer’s
High-fructose corn syrup is a lot sweeter than other sugars, more than twice as sweet. It causes high spikes in blood sugar, and if the muscles don’t use up that sugar right away, it’s converted into fat. An increase of fat and cholesterol can slow down the circulation of the blood that goes through the brain. This can accelerate the rate that cells die because they’re not getting the proper amount of oxygen. The more cells that die in the brain, the greater risk there is of developing memory problems or Alzheimer’s disease.

Diabetes
Also due to the fact that HFCS is so sweet, it can wreak havoc with people who have diabetes. It can cause large spikes in blood sugar levels, and can throw off their glucose levels which can cause serious problems.

Obesity
Because high-fructose corn syrup is found in almost all desert type foods, it has been linked to obesity. There’s no nutritional value at all in high-fructose corn syrup. It’s one of those ingredients that make you feel hungrier after you’ve eaten instead of feeling full. Because of this aspect, if you eat something with HFCS, you may eat more. And of course, the more you eat, the more calories you consume, which can lead to weight gain."

Those same things are linked to "regular sugar" so I don't understand your point.

Speaking as someone who has actually used a variety of artificial and naturally derived sweeteners, there is essentially no difference between naturally derived sweeteners. If there were a difference, baking recipes in particular wouldn't work if you changed what type of sweeteners you used without changing the amounts. This argument about corn syrup being somehow bad (at least compared to other sugars) is going to become a moot point soon anyway. The reason you're seeing things like "throwback" sodas and other products touting the use of "real sugar" isn't because companies have suddenly decided using real sugar is a smart move or a novel concept that will win customers. Those products are being made because the price of corn syrup has spiked due to the ethanol mandate, putting it nearer to the price of "real" sugar. The companies using the real sugar in their production are merely taking advantage of this change in the industry to try to draw in some customers from the "corn sugar is bad" segment of the population, which is making the best of a bad situation.

Look for the price of anything that is sweetened to start spiking as corn prices are pushed through the roof by the ethanol mandate.

Jubber

This. One of my best friend's dad is a doctor that specializes in obesity and the first thing he always tells his patients is to cut pop from their diets, considering its one of the worst things you can possibly put into you (I think it has something like 25g of sugar in it, which I'm pretty sure is equal to taking a shot or two of pure sugar).

He's Canadian, so he didn't.

qft
HFCS is more.

Like M says, next time you want to lose weight, keep sugar in your diet as it should be in small amounts but cut out High Fructose Corn Syrup completely and just see what happens in 2 weeks. If anyone here knows Ilythiiri he did this and lost 10 lbs in 1 week, but no he's in the army so look where that got him. nvm

Edit: Try the drink with that rum, the difference in the taste of the combo is almost a perfect elixir.

I'll just keep drinking aspartame, which is probably even worse than the sugar.
